Where to Find Old Disney Movies

Classic Disney Movies, Disney Movies, Vhs

Disney has released hundreds of animated motion pictures throughout the years. Since technology evolved and DVD disks replaced VHS in the retail stores, it has become increasingly hard to find and buy Disney movies because Disney’s marketing strategy means the newly released DVD versions of most of their movies are only in stores for a short time. There are also a lot of obscure Disney movies that haven’t been released on DVD at all, and so therefore those are an even harder find. This means that a Disney enthusiast must sleuth out these elusive movies, but thankfully there are a couple of very useful resources to help them find what they are looking for.

Ebay.com is probably the most useful aid to a Disney movie collector. There is thousands of Disney movies listed on there every day, and a lot are a very reasonable bargain. Right now is an excellent time to use eBay and add to your Disney collection because many sellers are offering free shipping of their items. eBay is also a great, and sometimes the only way, to find a Disney movie that is older and widely unheard of. Many of those unknown movies are sold on eBay in mint condition so it truly is a “collector’s item”. EBay sellers also post auctions of a “lot” of Disney movies, meaning that they are selling several movies in one auction. Those usually are an even better bargain and a smart choice for those who are starting with a small collection and need many movies to beef up their collection. If you like to shop on-line, are looking for a bargain, and might be looking for a little known movie, then eBay is a good choice to find what you need for your loved Disney collection.

The video and music store, Dimple, is also a very adept source of finding new or used Disney movies on DVD or VHS if you are the type of person that hates the wait of on-line shopping. Dimple stores have a large selection of new Disney DVD disks, after the limited time that Disney releases the classics on DVD; some of the quantity that hasn’t been sold gets passed to Dimple. There is also a huge selection of used DVD disks that people traded in that function perfectly, but since it is used you get a better deal than if it was new. Dimples is also one of the few stores that still sells used VHS at a ridiculously low price, in Sacramento each VHS is only 99 cents, and there is a large children’s section of VHS that is flooded with Disney VHS videos. So if you have a local Dimple store and are a Disney fan, it is definitely worth checking out to see if they have what you need for your collection.

Some other great resources are garage sales or closet clean-outs. The tricky thing about scouting for garage sales is that not every one of them is going to be selling Disney movies. The way a true Disney sleuth goes about finding Disney movies is asking around the neighborhood about couples that have teenage or college age children because those are the ones who are most likely going to be selling the Disney VHS tape or DVD disks because their kids have outgrown Disney. It is still intelligent to cruise by random garage sales but if you are passing by and you see that the family has children, then your best bet is to not linger long unless you see VHS tapes because that is more than likely the only way the family would be able to part with Disney movies. Otherwise you are best off going on-line and finding what you need or trying out Dimple and other video stores.
