Weekend Getaway Williamsburg, Virginia

Williamsburg, Virginia is a personal favorite for a weekend getaway. I love the quaint antique shops, the many stores in Williamsburg Pottery, and the small stores lining the streets of downtown Williamsburg. There are also plenty of souvenir shops. A getaway to Williamsburg, Virginia for me would have to include window shopping of all the knick knack stores. Williamsburg, Virginia is full of heritage and culture, even as you stroll the streets shopping.

If you want to escape, you will love staying in Quality Inn at Kingsmill in Williamsburg, Virginia. The hotel has all the amenities of home plus a heated sauna and an indoor pool. This is so nice in the winter time if you want to relax by the pool or even relax in the pool. The prices start at $129 for the Quality Inn. If you can find discount books or even if you have AAA, the price goes down considerably. There are also other hotels in the area. The prices are high because of the tourism and college events.

If you are interested in going to the beach, Virginia Beach is two hours away from Williamsburg, Virginia. Virginia Beach is not as crowded as the Carolinas. There are also plenty of tours through Williamsburg, Virginia. You can enjoy a walking tour of Colonial Williamsburg for $50 an hour for a tour of up to eight people. While on the tour you can enjoy tavern food. However, reservations at the different taverns need to be made in advance and prices vary by food and tavern. There is also a horse and carriage ride that can only be booked that day. If you are looking for a ghost tour the cost is $116 for up to eight people and the walking tour takes about an hour and a half. Williamsburg tours can be found online and booked as well. Tours start at $40 and go over $100.

You may want to stay on your own instead of taking the tours. Save the money for the cost of a guide and explore plantations and gardens on your own. You may not get the historical information that a guide would include, but you will have the freedom to explore the places and take as much or as little time as you want. There are many plantations and gardens that you might want the freedom to drive by, or walk through and see on your own.

If you are seeking attractions for a weekend getaway, Busch Gardens and Water Country USA are located in Williamsburg. Busch Gardens costs about $60 a day for an adult. If you are looking for water parks there are a couple of water parks less than half an hour away. Water Country USA prices are about $40 a day. Be forewarned that you will also have to pay to park in Water Country USA. Prices for parking start at $12.

A weekend escape to Williamsburg, Virginia will easily cost $700. Airfare will be expensive because the nearest airport is Richmond, Virginia. A car will need to be rented to drive to Williamsburg. The scenic route is well worth the cost of a car rental. A weekend escape to Williamsburg will be extremely relaxing whether you are looking for a getaway for two to just sit in a hotel or even becoming a tourist for a weekend.
