Top Ten Love Songs of 2009

As an avid music lover, 2009 provided yet another year of timeless songs to cherish along with the memories you made during them. The songs were sung by both male performers and female and covered everything from heartbreak to new budding romance. Here, is the list of Top Love Songs for 2009.

10. Love Story” by Taylor Swift: This country ballad turned pop radio hit is all about finding that special romance that you read about in fairy tales. The lyrics are sweet and catchy, and this has definitely been Taylor Swift’s year to shine in the album category, as her release of “Fearless”, has been on the charts for almost a straight year. I am sure there will be much more to come from this shining star.

9. “The Man Who Cant Be Moved” by The Script: This song was instantly one of my favorites this year from the moment I saw it. It is a true love song that even the music video attests to. The song is of a young man who goes back to the first place he met his love and sits there waiting for her to come back to him. The lyrics are clever, and the vocals are unique. I expect to hear a lot more of them hitting the airwaves very soon.

8. Down” by Jay Sean: I originally heard this song and thought this was a great dance tune, yet the more I heard it I realized the great lyrical content in it and that it was so much more than just that. The song is clever, catchy and very addicting. Down” is still rocking the charts and with Lil Wayne on backup vocals it is destined to be a hit. This was Jay Sean’s introduction to music, and I would say with this song he really has broken into the music industry. One hit wonder? time will tell.

7. Need You Now” by Lady Antebellum: This group has really blown 2009 out of the water with thier country hits topping the charts. The lyrics are touching, heartbreaking and are all about a couple who may be far away from one another, yet can recognize the desire to be near eachother. The lyrics and music are beautiful.

6. Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga: This song may be a surprise of the list, but who could not list Lady Gaga with the year she has had in 2009. The song is about following someone until they love them and though a bit “stalkerish” there is something still romantic about the way the story goes lyrically.

5. “Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart” by Alicia Keys is a haunting melody. The song is unlike any of her other releases in the fact that it features all harmony along with a chilling drum beat. Romantic elements are the desire to be with the one you love, yet, being unable to.

4. “Lucky” by Jason Mraz and Colbie Callait: This duet is a touching, catchy melody with lyrical romance written all over it. The song makes you smile and was a definite song this summer to cruise to in the car, singing to yourself or that special someone.

3. “Haven’t Met You Yet” by Michael Buble’: Michael Buble’ is a classic swoon type of singer. He resembles the vocal likeness of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett. The lyrics are cute, and he brings classic love songs back to the airwaves for everyone to enjoy. The idea of that special person being out there, but you just have not met them yet.

2. Meet me Halfway” by Black Eyed Peas: The beauty of this song is not only Fergie’s magical vocals but the idea that compromise in a relationship can turn into great romance. The song just hit the charts and is sure to keep climbing all the way up.

1. “1,2,3,4” by Plain White T’s: This ballad is soft, quiet, and completely sung solo and acoustic. At first, it did not really seem like a popular radio hit, but after hearing it more and more, I realized the true beauty in the lyrics and how creative the lyrics actually were in creating a pure and true love song.

So, whether your country, rock or pop, there is always a love song for you. If your sad, the songs of heartbreak can keep you company, while if you are in love, they can provide you with a song to dance to. 2009 brought many great artists and with those artists came creative lyrics and songs. These are just a few, to say the least.
