Top Hotels Near USC

For those looking for a good hotel in the downtown Los Angeles area near the USC, here are five of the best in terms of quality, luxury and price.

Hilton Checkers

535 South Grand Avenue

Definitely one of the best, if not the best hotel in the area, the historic Hilton Checkers resides as the only four-diamond boutique hotel in Downtown L.A. It provides luxury and class in all ways, from each beautiful suite-like room to the rooftop deck which holds a pool and an amazing view of the Los Angeles skyline.

Every room (starting around a rate of $200) has been put together with the utmost care and style, with little personal touches such as lovely decor, artwork and fresh flowers that make you feel at home. Also included are some high-quality brand bath products, a coffeemaker and free quality coffee, a flat screen TV, three telephones all with extra-long cords and voicemail, 24-hour room service, free newspaper delivered every weekday, and of course high-speed internet access which is also available through the rest of the hotel.

Speaking of the rest of the hotel, for everyone’s enjoyment there is a fitness center, pool and whirlpool, spa, laundry and valet, and business services. This hotel even offers a complimentary shoeshine if needed! Also available is top-ranked gourmet restaurant and Checker’s lounge, which provides a nice intimate setting and award-winning martinis.

The entire staff here is very nice, from people working behind the desk to the housemaids who do what they can to make everything comfortable and accommodating.

Being in the heart of downtown, just walking distance from the Convention Center and Staples Center, along with being not so far from USC, this hotel is one of the best choices you can make.

Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles

506 South Grand Avenue

Another historic hotel, this one is famous not only by its breath-taking architecture and interior decor all throughout the building, but for different historical events that have happened. As the founding banquet for the Motion Picture Arts and Sciences along with the location of the conception of the Oscar award, many famous individuals have stayed at the Biltmore over time.

Starting around $150, the rooms are gorgeous just like the rest of the hotel. Basic amenities include 24-hour room service, direct-dial phones with voicemail, high-speed internet access, an iron and ironing board, refrigerator, hairdryer, comfy terrycloth bathrobe, a coffeemaker and a minibar. The beds are some of the most comfortable ever, from the mattress itself to the high-quality linens. Many of the rooms, however nice they are, are a bit on the small side due to the hotel being pretty old. But if you are traveling alone or as a couple this shouldn’t be a problem.

Other features of the Biltmore are a health club and Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, an elegant Roman-tiled indoor pool, safe deposit boxes, valet parking (for a bit high of a price), and laundry, babysitting and currency exchange services, Also on-site are seven fantastic restaurants and two bar areas.

The staff provides excellent service in a welcoming manner. Many of them are multi-lingual as well.

Radisson Hotel Midtown Los Angeles

3540 South Figueroa

Probably the best hotel in regards to location to the USC campus (it’s right across from it!), the Radisson is not the best hotel as far as luxury but probably more than good enough for most standards.

With rates starting around the $150 area, each room has been put together with taste and tact, offering such amenities as coffeemakers, irons and boards, hair dryers, in-room safes, two phones with data ports and free high-speed internet access. The hotel itself is old and this also reflects on the rooms, but all in all they are perfectly clean with really comfortable bedding.

Other amenities throughout the Radisson include a heated pool, whirlpool, fitness center, and two great restaurants along with a sports bar that gets pretty packed and lively on USC game nights! There is also a gift shop that has a plethora of USC souvenirs.

The staff here is great, with friendly and accommodating individuals working behind the front desk as well as at the restaurants and bar.

Overall, if you’re looking to be in a great location pertaining to the university, the Radisson is the perfect choice.

Holiday Inn Los Angeles – City Center

1020 South Figueroa Street

Right across from the Staples Center and Los Angeles Convention Center, within walking distance to other fine districts, is this quaint Holiday Inn – not the best hotel in the world, but great for price and location of being right in the middle of the downtown area.

Rooms start around a price of $130, and feature a comfortable living atmosphere with such amenities as a coffemaker, hairdryer, iron and board, sitting area, in-room video games, a huge desk, dual phone lines and voicemail, and free high-speed internet access.

Also provided by the hotel is a fitness center, a nice pool area that overlooks downtown L.A., and a nice, casual restaurant known as The Emerald Grill and Lounge, which serves a variety of different kinds of great-tasting food.

The service here is very efficient, provided by a staff that is extremely helpful and nice. Again this Radisson is not the best hotel ever, but it’s far more than just a basic place to stay.

The Ritz Milner – Los Angeles

813 S. Flower St.

If you’re looking for a quaint, non-expensive downtown hotel, The Ritz Milner is a nice quality choice. Nothing too fancy, but perfect enough if you want a comfortable, elegantly-decorated room that’s within walking distance of the subway and many area attractions.

Starting around $99, The Ritz offers many large suites and newly remodeled standard rooms, with comfortable bedding and high-speed internet access. All guests receive an offer for a complimentary breakfast. A full-service restaurant and bar are on-site, but other than that this place doesn’t offer much as far as hotel amenities go.

Just a basic, comfy place to stay for a low price, The Ritz also has a friendly, diverse staff that are professional and very knowledgeable about the downtown Los Angeles area.
