Top Beers of Delaware State

Although Delaware is a relatively small state several big name breweries have rose to the top with some of the finest beer produced in the nation. Here is a brief review of some of those beers.

1) 120 Minute IPA brewed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewing Company of Delaware

This beer pours a nice amber in color with a moderate white head. The first thing that hits you when you take a sip is how sweet this beer really is. I was not expecting it to be quite so sweet but once I adjusted I did enjoy it. There is a strong overture of citrus that sits well on the tongue with the heavy malt flavor. It lacked any flavor of hops. I did enjoy this beer but you must be in the mood for a sweet brew.

2) 90 Minute IPA brewed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewing Company of Delaware

A lovely golden brew when first poured with a small white head. The first thing you notice is the hop in the smell. Very pleasant aroma. The taste is strong in citrus and the bitterness is a welcome wake up call for your tongue. I enjoyed the nice balance in this beer.

3) Altar Boy is a Dubbel brewed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewing Company of Delaware

This beer is suppose be be aged in bourbon barrels. It pours a very dark amber in color with a moderate white head. I expected to have a heavy bourbon flavor but this was not the case. It has a nice bourbon aftertaste mixed with a lovely smell that was laced with a nice bit of malt. It had a bit of spice to it which was a nice surprise.

4) Burton Baton brewed by Dogfish Head Craft Brewing Company of Delaware

Pours a nice amber in color with a tan head. The first smell of this beer reveals a strong citrus overtone. Wonderful maltiness and even a small hint of vanilla. This beer is sweet but also mixes in a bit of bitterness to the brew which is nice and balanced.

5) Copperhead Ale brewed by Fordham Brewing Company of Delaware

A nice orange in color with a small white head. The flavor is a nice caramel maltiness. It is sweet but has a little bit of a tang also.

6) Helles Lager brewed by Fordham Brewing Company of Delaware

A nice yellow in color with amber sparkle throughout. The head is small and white. The taste has a nice blend of hops and maltiness. There is a bitter overture to the whole thing. Perhaps a bit more then I wanted but not bad if that is what you are in the mood for.

7) Iron Hill Light Lager brewed by Iron Hill Brewing Company of Delaware

A light yellow with a large white head that doesn’t last very long. This is a slightly sweet lager with a small taste of hops but not much.

8) Saison Du Hill brewed by Iron Hill Brewing Company of Delaware.

This is an interesting farmhouse ale. It pours a light yellow with a bit of amber throughout. A nice medium white head tops it off. Just a small touch of bitterness in the flavor with a little bit of citrus and honey mixed in. I think I even tasted a little orange as an aftertaste. Not a bad all around brew.

9) Abbey Tripel brewed by Iron Hill Brewing Company of Delaware

A lovely light yellow with just a touch of a head. Not much head at all. It is a sweet beer without much bitterness. There is spicy flavor throughout each drink.

10) Chicory Stout by Dogfish Head Craft Brewing Company of Delaware

Pours a deep dark black with a rosy head that isn’t too prominate. This is a nice malty sweet beer with strong coffee laced throughout. If you enjoy coffee then you will definitely like this beer. It is a nice balanced flavor. I loved the smell of malt and coffee. Very intoxicating.
