Three of Portland’s Best Fishing Spots

Fishing in Oregon is fantastic, there are many great fishing spots in and around the Portland, Oregon area depending on the type of fish a fisherman is looking to catch.

Salmon and Sturgeon are favorites of most fishermen and can be found right in the Columbia River. Launch your boat from Chinook Landing and head West up the Columbia River. The cost to launch at Chinook Landing is $5.00 for the entire day. Fishing is best in the Columbia River within the first 10 miles west from launch. Salmon and Sturgeon are some of the Columbia River’s favorite catches although many other fish can be caught in the Columbia River. Before launching the boat be sure you have the proper river boating certificate, licenses and tags for the fish you will be bringing in.

Bass can be found in large number at Tenmile Lake. Tenmile Lake is located on the Central Oregon coast. Tenmile Lake is a great bass fishing area with bass season beginning in late March and Early April. Tenmile Lake is also stocked with hatchery-bred trout by the Department of Fish and Wildlife 2 to 4 times a year. Fishermen can enjoy catching crappie and bluegill that become plentiful in early-late spring when the water temperatures begin to rise. In September Tenmile Creek is a perfect place for Salmon, Steelhead, Sea Run Cut Throat and Chinook when the Chinook begin their run from the ocean upstream for mating in September, shortly after that runs the Steelhead being their run.

The final fishing spot on Portland’s list of good fishing areas is Hagg Lake, which is located 25 miles southwest of Portland. Hagg Lake is resting at the base of the beautiful coastal mountain range and has a great bunch of camping and daytime areas for the outdoorsman or fishermen. Daily vehicle passes are $5.00 with Vehicle and boat passes costing $6.00. Seasons passes are available and they are priced at vehicle $50.00; boat $55.00; senior $35.00 for vehicle or boat and second pass $20.00.
