The Paleo Diet for Acne

As someone who had suffered with adult cystic acne, learning about a possible natural cure was a breakthrough. Before the Paleo Diet, my only relief from acne came from pricey facial treatments and prescription medications. The relief I did find was only temporary; my breakouts always came back no matter what medication I was taking, or the treatment I was using. All of that changed when I began the paleo diet.

How Acne Forms

Before I can explain how the paleo diet can help cure acne naturally, you need to understand how acne forms. Acne forms when too much oil mixes with your dead skin cells. This sticky substance is trapped in your pores where it is infected with bacteria. The resulting infection is the cause of those embarrassing red bumps on your skin.

Wondering how your acne is influenced by your diet? Processed foods introduce damaging free radicals, chemicals, and preservatives; all of which disrupt your hormones and the natural chemical balance in your brain and body. This disruption is what causes excess oil production and inflammation, along with a host of other problems.

A widely unknown fact is that the human digestive system has hardly evolved (about 1%) in the 1.7 million years our species has been in existence. Our bodies have not yet adapted to the kinds of man-made foods that have become a common staple in the modern diet. The only foods our digestive system is capable of handling are the foods that nature can provide on its own.

What is the Paleo Diet

The Paleo Diet is an all-natural diet; it is free of gluten and all processed foods, including artificial and refined sugars. Fashioned after the nutritional choices of our paleolithic ancestors (hence the word “paleo”), a basic rule-of-thumb to follow is that if the food didn’t exist during paleolithic times, then it should not be eaten. The only food choices ancient humans had were those given to them by nature and earth.

The diet was first made popular by Walter L. Voegtlin’s book, “The Stone Age Diet”, who had self-published the book in 1975. Other notable, more recent paleo experts and authors are Robb Wolf (The Paleo Solution), and Loren Cordain (The Paleo Diet Cookbook, Paleo for Athletes).

The Paleo Diet and Acne

When your body is only given the kinds of foods for which it is genetically designed, a complete balance is achieved. A common misconception about acne is that it’s normal; it isn’t. Acne is the result of a hormonal and chemical imbalance in the body caused by an unhealthy gut. The paleo diet helps restore your gut’s health, thus restoring your hormonal and chemical balance. This balance is the natural cure for acne.

Imagine not having to buy pricey acne treatments or subject your body to prescription medications. Providing your body with the foods that only nature and earth can provide is rewarded with the permanent loss of acne and other ailments.
