The 10 Best Mythological Creatures

Ever since I played Dragon Warrior on the NES for the first time I’ve loved anything fantasy related. This led me to read about a lot of myths, gods and folklore. I’m a very religious person so I don’t believe in all of this mythology but they are fun stories to read and they all involve some pretty cool creatures. These are the 10 best.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Mermaid

Mermaids are a little bit girly but I had to include them because they are pretty popular. Plus a combination of a human and a fish is pretty cool I guess.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Pegasus

Forget unicorns. What good is a horn on top of a horse? They don’t even use their horn for anything. But a horse with wings? Now that is cool and practical. Lots of humans want the ability to fly, I’m sure horses do too.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Banshee

Fairies are a very prominent mythological creature but specifically the best type is the banshee. There are many myths surrounding banshees but they are originally known in Irish folklore that says a banshee would wail around a house when somebody was going to die there.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Phoenix

The Phoenix is one of the most well known mythological creatures. A phoenix is a fiery bird that burns up but then a new Phoenix arises. The symbolism of a phoenix is way overplayed but the Phoenix is a cool creature

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Cyclops

Giants are cool, but there is something even cooler about a giant with one eye. I’m not sure why since regular humans with one eye aren’t cooler than humans with two eyes (unless it is a pirate with an eye patch) but for some reason it works for giants.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Wyvern

I could have easily put the dragon on this list but that was way too easy. Instead I went with another dragon-like creature, the Wyvern. My fascination with the Wyvern definitely came from roleplaying video games. Wyverns were in every roleplaying video game at one point.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Cerberus

The cerberus not only looks cool but also has a cool job. The cerberus is a giant dog-like creature that has multiple heads and is basically the prison guard of Hades. The cerberus stands guard at Hades to prevent anybody that has crossed the River Styx from escaping.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Golem

The golem is another creature I learned from roleplaying video games. A golem is a giant creature that is made completely of some inanimate object. In most myths golems are made out of clay but the original golem that I saw was made out of gold.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Minotaur

A lot of the best mythological creatures come from combining two different types of animals. As far as the half human creatures are concerned I can’t think of a better mixture than having the head of a bull.

10 Best Mythological Creatures: Griffin

The minotaur might be the best mythological creature to be half human but the best mixture of two other animals is the griffin. The griffin is a combination of a lion and an eagle. The reason those two animals were chosen was because the lion is the king of the jungle and the eagle is the king of the sky.
