Ten Best Free Diabetes Websites

As a diabetic, I am always looking for new information and new recipes. The best, healthiest diabetic is an informed diabetic. Here are ten of my favorite websites where I find information. All of these offer free information for the public.

1. dLife: This is an incredibly large website. There is something for everyone. Here you can find forums, blood sugar info, articles geared for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, healthy eating, and many recipes.

2. dLife TV: In some areas, you can access a weekly thirty minute television show, called dLife. I watch it often on early Saturday evenings. They also have a web link which provides over 400 free videos on diabetic living and eating. That is one informative video for more than every day in the year! Check it out!

3. Diabetes Daily: Here you will find articles, recipes, forums, free cookbooks, low carb menus and many diabetes management tools for absolutely free.

4. Diabetic Living: This online version of the magazine provides recipes, articles on weight loss, being newly diagnosed, and monitoring-all for free.

5. Diabetic Gourmet: Here you will find thousands of free recipes and eat the good dish despite diabetes.

6. Diabetic Recipes for Kids: Part of the Children with Diabetes website, there are many incredible free recipes (with photos) for healthy kid recipes. I love many of these simple creations myself.

7. The Mayo Clinic: Many free recipes and tips are on this website portion of the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. They also have a multitude of free e-newsletters for which you can sign up.

8. Seventh Day Adventist Dietetic Association: You do not have to be a member of this church to access this powerhouse of information and links on vegetarian eating. I especially like the graphics of the vegetarian food pyramid. This is different and will help you find creative ways to fill your life with fruits and vegetables, even if you are not a complete vegetarian or vegan. They have some interesting information on making meatless meals. More meatless meals wards off heart disease.

9. Diabetic Recipes: Here you can find free recipes from award winning cookbook authors.

10. American Dietetic Association: This site gets a big ‘WOW’ from me. It is absolutely chock full of information. You do not have to be a member to access tons of information. Click on the “public” link and discover info on healthy eating for kids, food labels, reviews of popular diet plans, eating plans for older adults, children, diabetics, and on and on.

There is so much information out there. Take the time to inform yourself about diabetes and how to best keep your health in line without complications. These are all wonderful websites that will complement your medical plan perfectly. Share them with your physician-he or she may or may not know about all of these.
