Swiffer WetJet Power Mop Review

The Swiffer WetJet is a power mop that uses 4 AA batteries and is made up of a sweeper, cleaning pads and cleaning solution. There is a sprayer that squirts the cleaning solution onto the floor from the mop itself. Here is my experience with the Swiffer WetJet and why I have switched back to the old fashioned mop and bucket.

The first time I used the Swiffer WetJet was last year. The commercials I’ve seen for this product state that the Swiffer is much better than your old mop and that it effectively cleans floors. That could be far from the truth.

When I first used used the Swiffer WetJet it was to clean the kitchen floor. First, you have to attach a cleaning pad to the bottom of the Swiffer mop to clean up the dirt. The cost of 12 cleaning pads was about $8.00. I think it is more cost effective to buy a mop and my own cleaning solution and do it the old fashioned way. I pushed the Swiffer across the floor and over a few stains. It took a lot of effort to get the stains out, so I decided to just get a paper towel and some all purpose spray and wipe them out myself.

I continued to mop the floor with the Swiffer WetJet and give it another try. The floor was still sticky afterward and I noticed that it caused smears and didn’t clean very nicely. It didn’t even look like I cleaned the floor when I was done. My roomate came home later from work and said, “How come you didn’t do the kitchen floor today?” This was after I had used the Swiffer WetJet to clean it.

I used this product a few times after my first experience, just so the cleaning pads didn’t go to waste. I started using it in the bathroom, where the area was much smaller. It was difficult to get in hard to reach places, it hardly picked up anything that was on the floor. I did notice that dirt and dust was being picked up because the cleaning pad would have a darker color after using it, but for things like hair and for stains, it did not work effectively at all.

My friend also used this mop to give it a try. She said maybe I wasn’t doing something right. After just one use, she said that she was going back to the old mop and bucket. She said all the same things I did about it. It was hard to clean, it did not get in hard to reach places and it left smears on her kitchen floor. She also noticed that the side buffer it comes with did not work at all.

I would say this product is not worth the money and it is more costly than using your own mop, bucket and cleaning solution. The floor looks clean again because we switched back to our old cleaning method. Goodbye Swiffer WetJet. In the commercial, it shows your old mop singing the song “Baby Come Back”. I say to my old mop, I am definetly coming back, baby.
