Summer at the Starboard in Dewey Beach

If you’re looking for a quiet, laid back place to sip an iced tea with your grandkids, The Starboard in Dewey Beach may not be your best bet. If your agenda is clearing your head of last semester’s finals and filling up instead on good music and some tasty food, The Starboard welcomes you aboard. From crab-filled breakfast omelets in the morning, to balmy, music-filled nights on the bayside deck, The Starboard is all about kicking back and having a good time at the shore.

With Memorial Day behind us, another summer season is underway at The Starboard. This year, a new Insider VIP Card program offers both discounts and priority access– an especially valuable privilege during busy breakfast hours. A review of some of Starboard’s more interesting menu items and entertainment schedule follows.

Breakfast at The Starboard

The first and most important meal of the day is a big deal at The Starboard. The very club you partied in the night before is transformed each morning into a breakfast hotspot with an extensive menu. Be forewarned, the lines can be long at times, so the early bird gets the eggs.

If you’re longing for comfort foods that remind you of home, Starboard certainly offers the usual morning meal staples. You’ll find French Toast, blueberry buttermilk pancakes and thick Belgian waffles on the menu. Starboards breakfast repertoire includes everything from fresh fruit to Fruit Loops with sides of hash browns, scrapple and bagels with cream cheese. That said, isn’t the point of going on vacation to branch out and try new things?

If you’re looking for something a bit different, one especially noteworthy breakfast choice is Starboard’s Eggs Delmarva. Eggs Benedict get a shore-themed make-over with poached eggs resting atop a mound of chunky crab meat and served on top of toasted English muffins. To make matters more decadent, the eggs are topped with a rich Hollandaise sauce.

If having the ocean just a few minutes walk away isn’t “beach” enough for you, try Starboard’s Caribbean Eggs. Another variation of the Eggs Benedict standard, this dish sees your English muffins loaded up with spicy Jamaican jerk chicken. Of course, the obligatory poached eggs are nestled on top and receive a heaping helping of creamy Hollandaise.

If you’re expecting Starboard’s Full Monty Breakfast to come naked, you’re going to be disappointed. If, however, you’re hoping for two eggs done your way, bacon strips, sausage and some hashbrowns– they’ve got you covered. Still hungry? No problem… You’ll also get your choice of raisin bread French toast or pancakes.

Starboard breakfast sandwiches are a rite of Dewey Beach passage. A multitude of options await. You’ll find fresh croissants, toast and burritos wrapped around bacon, sausage, scrapple and ham. There’s also an abundance of hash browns, cheese, tomatoes, onions, green peppers and fresh, homemade salsa.

Starboard’s kitchen also cranks out some incredible omelets. If you’re in the mood for seafood in the morning, check out the aptly named, Your Fish is Our Command. Here, eggs combine with shrimp and jumbo lump crabmeat then topped with the cheese of your choice and finished to perfection.

Other creative omelets at The Starboard include the jerk chicken filled Caribbean omelet and the Napa Valley Fru Fru which gets the crisp bacon and molten Monterey Jack treatment along with guacamole and salsa garnish. If you like your breakfast hot in both senses of the word, try the Hot as Huevos. You’ll get your eggs wrapped around jalapeno peppers, spicy sausage and Monterey Jack cheese with a drizzle of Starboard’s own fiery hot sauce.

Finally, if you have a smaller appetite, you may want to second think the Kitchen Sink! It’s amply packed with your three favorite breakfast meats; bacon, ham and sausage. Not enough? Ok, it’s also topped with both Swiss and American cheeses. You want more? Before being folded, the Kitchen Sink receives chopped onions and green peppers. A smothering of hollandaise sauce makes the omelet ready for presentation.
