Cheap Alternatives to Expensive Storage Containers for Kids Toys

There are some expensive storage containers for kids toy that you could buy to organize kids’ toy clutter.

Then there are the cheap alternatives that let you organize kids toys even more efficiently. Why spend a lot of money on storage containers for kids’ toys when there are much cheaper options for parents?

Cheap Alternatives to Expensive Storage Containers for Kids Toys

Foldable Laundry Bag

A lightweight and foldable mesh laundry basket is a cheap alternative to expensive storage containers. The standing laundry baskets can be used to to organize the clutter of children’s toys. Cheap mesh laundry bags can be purchased in different sizes for different shapes and sizes of toys.

Use a small, square laundry basket as a storage container to organize your child’s current favorites. These small laundry baskets are easy enough for even a toddler to drag across the floor.

Use a taller and cheap laundry basket as a storage container for light toys, or tall toys.

Round Garbage Pail and Cover

Another great cheap indoor or outdoor storage container is a see-through round garbage pail with a locking cover. Instead of buying an expensive outdoor toy chest, buy a cheap round garbage pail and cover, for under $10 to store all of the “outside balls” for playing games outside.

In the colder months the round garbage pail can be brought inside to store all different sizes of balls.

Stackable Crates

Stackable crates are another cheap storage container that can be used to organize kids toys, without a toy chest. The best part about stackable crates is that they can be rotated. Rotating stackable crates is a great way to give kids new toys, without spending any money.

When they discover a toy they have not used for a while, it will seem like new. This cheap idea for a storage container can cost less than $10, comapred to $30 for more expensive stackable crates.

Tip: Stack toys in stackable crates for school-aged children. Stack crates only two crates high.

Shoe Organizer

Use a shoe organizer instead of a storage container for lightweight toys and kids items.

An over the door shoe organizer is another cheap alternative to the more expensive canvas toy organizers that can retail for around $30. For under $10 you can use a shoe organizer instead to organize stuffed animals, which seem to multiply with every holiday and birthday.

An over-the-door shoe organizer can also be used to store seasonal toy items for kids.

An Older Sibling’s Discarded Backpack

You could buy an expensive piece of kids’ storage container that doubles as an ottoman, for about $80. Or, recycle another family’s backpack instead.

An older sibling’s discarded backpack may not be in good enough shape to carry textbooks and school items but it still could be used as a cheap storage container for smaller kids’s toys. Store stray blocks, large puzzle pieces, or any other stray items that seem to get lost among other, larger toys.

The recycled backpack also gives the child a convenient way of carrying their toys from one room into another, without leaving a Hansel and Gretel trail along the way.

Using a cheap storage container to store kids’ toys is one way parents can save money.
