I have had to have two cesarean sections, and I can assure you that it is not an easy thing to do. However, once you have one you usually learn how to deal with the next a little better. In this article, we will be reviewing ways that you can survive a cesarean section. For easier reference, throughout the article, we will use the term c-section to refer to this procedure.
One of the first steps to c-section survival is to request dissolvable stitches instead of staples. With my first c-section, I had staples and I must say that it was one of the most horrifying and painful experiences of my life! With my second c-section, I asked if I could have dissolvable stitches in a joking manner, and to my surprise, the doctor agreed! The dissolvable stitches helped to heal the incision quicker and it was not very painful at all.
Another important step to surviving a c-section is, after the surgery, try your very best to get up and move around as quickly as possible. This helps the circulation in the body, which helps the incision to heal quicker. In addition, if you fail to move around immediately after the c-section, you will experience a lot of pain and overall discomfort. This is because gas often settles in the general area of the incision and your body needs circulation. Walking with a pillow pushed against your stomach can be a great relief.
Speaking of a pillow, it is ideal for you to have a sturdy pillow that you can use to press against your stomach. If you plan on sitting up in bed, coughing, and/or laughing, you will want to push a pillow against your stomach. This helps to minimize the pain that you will encounter because of these activities.
Once you have a c-section, you may want to locate a comfortable rocking chair to use. When I had my second son in the family birthing center, they had rocking chairs that the nurses and doctor told us we should use. They stated that doing so would increase the body’s circulation and assist in the healing process. They were right! As soon as I got home from the hospital, I was moving around and cleaning my house!
It is also vital, once you have a c-section, to drink as many fluids as possible. If the doctor assigns you a special diet, stick to it. This can assist in ensuring your body returns to normally functioning as soon as possible.
