Spend a Day at the Baltimore Inner Harbor

There are many tourist attractions in Maryland and Washington, DC. One favorite places to visit during the summer is the Baltimore Inner Harbor, located in downtown Baltimore. The Inner Harbor, a historic seaport in the 1700’s that has now transformed into the cities landmark, has been a popular Baltimore spot for people to visit all year long.

There are tons of restaurants, shops, and museums at the Baltimore Inner Harbor. The most popular attraction at the Inner Harbor is the National Aquarium in Baltimore. People really come to see the spectacular dolphin show, but there are over 560 different species such as sharks, sting rays, and tropical birds to see. I recently visited the aquarium with my family. My one-year old daughter was very excited to see all the big fish and sharks in the huge glass tank that surrounded us and I always enjoy the tropical rainforest, a replica of an actual rainforest with tons of different tropical birds. The aquarium has specific times for entry so it may be a good idea to visit their website to purchase tickets online to ensure that you are able to get in at the time that you want.

At the Harbor Place and Gallery, you can shop for Baltimore Inner Harbor souvenirs or eat at one of the many restaurants and eateries such as. The Harbor Place connects to the Gallery, a four-level shopping mall with tons of clothing stores for men, women, and children.

I am not big on science, but I love the Maryland Science Center. This Inner Harbor’s huge museum hosts more than a half of million visitors a year. Tourist can view full size skeletons of some of the biggest Dinosaurs that roamed the earth millions of years ago or view the galaxies planets and stars from a telescope. In the state of Maryland, the Blue Crab is a delicacy and an unofficial symbol of the state. At the Maryland Science Center, you can “Follow the Blue Crab”, an exhibit that displays the geography of the Blue Crab and Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay.

An IMAX theatre was placed in the Maryland Science Theatre for visitors to receive a lesson on nature and science in style. Currently, the IMAX Theatre is showing detailed stories on the Deep See, the Wild Safari, and the Alaska.

Visit the Power Plant, a strip of big name restaurants and stores in the Inner Harbor such as ESPN Zone, Hard Rock Café, and Barnes and Noble. This entertainment area gets the name from the huge power plant building that was originally built in the 1900’s.

The Baltimore Inner Harbor is also the home of Camden Yards (home Major League Baseball’s Baltimore Orioles) and M&T; Bank Stadium (Home of the National Football League’s Baltimore Ravens)

If you are a tourist, visiting the District of Columbia, you should also consider visiting the Baltimore Inner Harbor as well. The Inner Harbor is about 30 minutes from DC and very convenient to find. For more information on the Baltimore Inner Harbor, you can visit http://www.baltimore.to/baltimore.html.
