Simple Ways to Remodel a Small Kitchen

If you own a small kitchen, you already know how difficult it can be to work in a cramped working space. Generally speaking, most small kitchen’s have a tendency to look dark and uninviting. When contemplating the idea of remodeling your small kitchen, ask yourself a few questions. What kind of workspace do you require to get the job done fast and efficient? Does your kitchen need more storage space? What colors do you want that will make the space look inviting, but will compliment your home. Do your cupboards need a face-lift? What you are willing to spend on kitchen renovating. I will give you some unique ideas that I have used in the past.

When remodeling a small kitchen for more workspace and storage, you can simply add a pull out rolling cart on wheels. This will allow you to have more workspace and provide extra storage underneath for pots and pans. When you are finished, you can roll the cart against a wall, under a counter, or under the kitchen table to keep it out of the way when you no longer need it.

If you need more counter space, you can add a smaller kitchen sink to increase your counter space. Utilize your cupboard space by adding hooks underneath the cabinet for hanging coffee cups. This will free up your cupboard for storing canisters and appliances that will take up workspace on your countertop. You can organize your large utensils by displaying them on hooks; the space on each side of your cupboards next to the kitchen sink is a good area to add decorative hooks to hang large utensils that you use frequently

Add a slide-out cutting board above or underneath a silverware drawer.

Stackable wire racks with vinyl coating can increase counter space and keep items that you use more frequently organized and accessible.

Remodeling counter tops does not have to be expensive or difficult. Formica is the least expensive and easy to cut. Formica also comes in different colors and designs. Use matching counter top pieces to add extra workspace by cutting it to fit over the kitchen sink, when the sink is not in use. This will provide a clean workspace and keep dirty dishes out of view.

Kitchen flooring can add a completely different look to your remodeled kitchen. Vinyl peel and stick square flooring comes in many different patterns and colors. New flooring will add a clean and finished look to any small kitchen design, making it inviting and cozy.

When painting your kitchen, choose a color that complements your décor. Bright and cheerful colors like yellow, cream, white, soft greens, and light beige; will make your small kitchen seem larger. If you use an accent color on the trim, this will add dimension to your kitchen also giving it a bigger feel.

A few simple kitchen-remodeling ideas that will give your small kitchen an inviting and clean sharp appeal:

• Whitewashing your kitchen cabinets is an easy process and very inexpensive, this technique will add a fresh look to your small kitchen design.
• Adding new cupboard handles will completely change the look of any small kitchen.
• Wal-mart and Target have great borders to complement any kitchen. A simple border along the top edge of your kitchen will add charm and depth to your kitchen. These borders are easy to install and will create a completely different atmosphere, with very little work.

Kitchen renovating may seem challenging, but with these simple techniques, you should be able to make the design changes with very little stress. If you are remodeling to change the design of you kitchen, write it down on paper. Measure the space, before moving large appliances and make sure the area will have the correct outlets or plumbing necessary to run the appliance. Always think of the big picture, first. Then, progress to the smaller details. This will allow you to make changes slowly and still make a large impact in a small amount of time.
