Shy Bladder Remedies

If you suffer from shy bladder, or Paruresis as it’s known in the medical field, then you already know what a hassle it can be.

No, scratch that. You already know what a hassle it IS.

Not being able to go to the bathroom WHEN and WHERE you want is debilitating, it’s embarrassing, and it’s painful.

More than likely, you’ve already begun your search for a solution, and you’ve probably run across a couple. There are all sorts of “cures” out there for shy bladder, as I’m sure you are already aware, and each comes with its own set of pros and cons.

The most common method of curing shy bladder is called “gradual exposure therapy” or “desensitization”. Like all shy bladder remedies, this one of course has its positive side, the most positive being that it’s “safe”. The process is, like the name would suggest, gradual, so you don’t have the fear of having to dive into cold water, so to speak. You can slowly pave your way to freedom – inch by inch.

But this supposed benefit is also its downside – it’s gradual. Depending on the person and the person’s degree of commitment, gradual exposure therapy can take as much time or as little time as a person is willing to commit. And because most people looking for a cure have suffered from shy bladder for most of their adult life, it can be difficult to try to make changes.

This would seem obviously silly to most people, but ask any person who is stuck in any sort of psychological rut, be it depression, anxiety, shy bladder, or whatever: there is a certain kind of comfort in the stability of their condition. The thought of making a drastic change can be daunting, and consequently the process of gradual exposure therapy can take an unnecessarily long amount of time.

Since gradual exposure therapy usually relies on a therapist, there is a certain degree of power that is lost in the process.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t seek help if you have a problem. I’m not saying that at all. But, there is power in being able to take control of your life and tackle a problem on your own. Since most people who suffer from shy bladder are men and because men feel that it is especially obvious that they can’t pee when they are standing at a stall with other people next to them, the thought of continuing to have shy bladder for any longer than necessary is frustrating.

Not only that, but men tend to think of themselves as problem solvers and leaders, and the idea of being led to recovery rather than grabbing the bull by the horns can make the process of recovery longer than it has to be.

There is another method to cure shy bladder which is not only fast, but more empowering. This method is called “Cognitive Metacoding”.

Check it out HERE.

Don’t let the name scare you! It’s not nearly as difficult to apply as it is to pronounce. It is basically just gradual exposure therapy on crack, only instead of allowing yourself to move closer to your goal one baby step at a time, you reframe the way you think about urinating so that gradual exposure is no longer necessary.

Shy bladder is a condition that no one wants to live with forever – everyone who has it wants it to go away as fast as possible, but the only way that will happen is if you take the initiative and make it happen.
