Review: SeaPak Shrimp Scampi

Yesterday my husband and I were shopping at our local Sam’s Club store for Bose home theater speakers, and decided to pick up something from the frozen food section for that evenings dinner. Sam’s Club had a wide variety of frozen dinners, but what really looked good to us was a product made by the SeaPak Shrimp Company, called Shrimp Scampi.

About The SeaPak Shrimp Company

SeaPak started their business almost 60 years ago, on St. Simons Island, Georgia (near to the coast of Florida). In this town, shrimp has been a way of life for many years, and the SeaPak Shrimp Company offers some of the best shrimp on the market.

Description

The front of the box shows large tail-on shrimp, laying on a bed of egg noodles. The description on the box reads: “Succulent round tail-on shrimp in an authentic scampi sauce made with real butter, garlic, herbs and seasonings.

Although the picture on the box is “enlarged to show quantity”, these are indeed very generously sized shrimp, there are 48-60 shrimp per package. The box itself is two pounds.

Other info we get from the front of the box is that the Sea Pak Shrimp Scampi is “skillet ready”, sautes in as little as 7 minutes, and that it contains zero grams of saturated fat.

Easy To Prepare

SeaPak Shrimp Scampi can be prepared in three different ways. It can be cooked in a microwave, baked in a 450 degree oven, or the way we chose to prepare it, which was to saute the shrimp in a skillet.

Using the skillet method, the frozen shrimp are added to a skillet, and then saute the shrimp for 7 to 8 minutes. The directions read that the shrimp are done when the turn “orange on the outside and become white opaque inside”.

Nutrition Facts

One serving consists of 7 shrimp, which equal 350 calories, 30 grams of fat, 10 grams of saturated fat, and zero grams of trans fats. The sodium is 550mg, carbohydrates 2g, fiber 0g, sugars 0g, and protein 17 grams.

A serving provides 20% of the daily amount of vitamin A, 6% calcium, 2% vitamin C, and 10% iron.

My Impressions

In the past, I have purchased a frozen product similar to this one, but it contained noodles to go along with the frozen shrimp. These are large shrimp, and are generously covered with frozen butter and spices. I had to break the shrimp up with a wooden spoon, and as the butter melted, I turned the shrimp over when one side turned orange, so the other side would also become thoroughly cooked.

As the shrimp became ready to eat, they curled into balls, and were sitting in a large pool of seasoned butter. I boiled a separate pan of egg noodles to serve with the butter sauce, and this made a very satisfying, quick dinner.

My husband and I love shrimp, and the SeaPak Shrimp Scampi were indeed succulent, tender, and full of flavor. The herbed butter was seasoned perfectly, and didn’t seem overly salty to the taste. I would definitely purchase this again! The cost was around $13, which isn’t too bad for two pounds of large shrimp, prepared in real butter. SeaPak Shrimp Scampi gets two thumbs up from us.

There are recipe ideas on the box, and more can be found at the SeaPak website.
