Review of New CoverGirl BlastFlipStick Blendable Lip Duo in Minx

I was recently sent a package of 3 new products from CoverGirl called BlastFlipStick. I was thrilled to have been chosen to receive this free Bzz Kit from Bzz Agent. For starter’s I had to try and say BlastFlipStick 3 times fast, and then I dug into my shiny new package to see what sort of colors I had been given.

I was sad to see that they picked the ugliest 3 colors available, and I wish I had a way to return them, but hey, free is good. Or is it?

What Is a BlastFlipStick?

A lipstick duo is not a brand new concept, in fact it is something that us gals have seen on shelves time and time again. For the most part they usually go untouched due to the fact that in many brand named duo lipsticks, we are given one really nice color, and one not so special color. Thus the reason lipstick duo’s have never been popular.

BlastFlipSticks are basically nothing more than a lipstick duo. One stick contains 2 lipstick colors with top and bottom caps that open to reveal your colors. You can also view them right through the tube so you know exactly what you are going to get.

The very first color in my Bzz Kit that I decided to try was Minx.

Seeing that I recently colored my hair a nice golden color, I figured that this darker golden amber mix would fit my new hair color well.

On one side of the lipstick duo, a darker brown colored matte lipstick resides, and on the other a much lighter golden copper shimmer resides. You have the option to use one color, or blend them both.

I am not a fan at all of brown colored lipstick, however when I thought about the way the lighter colored gold shimmer would lighten up the brown, when I blended the colors together, I assumed the overall color of my lips would transform into a shimmery tan bronze.

My Use:

I applied the flat color first, the dark brown. On my lips standalone it looked god awful, and reminded me of my teenage goth times back in the 1990’s, when I wore dark lip colors, and had pale skin. Those days are in the past now, but it was momentarily funny to re-live it once I added this ugly drab brown colored poo to my lips.

However, the remedy to this was in fact that lighter colored golden shimmer color on the other side of the tube. I flipped off the cap and quickly applied it. My lips were not instantly transformed into the golden bronze color I had imagined prior. It actually took a lot of blending my lips together in order to get the 2 colors to mix into a new color. I was not too thrilled with just how dry the lipstick felt once they paired up. When I used the flat colored brown, it felt semi moisturized, and left my lips feeling light and natural. However once I added the golden shimmer, the lips felt dry.

The color however was very pretty, although it took a lot of blending to get the colors to mix, once they were the result was pretty on par to what I had been hoping for. A deep colored sun kissed bronze colored lips that went well with my tanner complexion, and golden colored hair.

The Minx color, gives you a real stormy look if that is what you are going for, and it works well on sunny bright days, or dark drab evenings when you want your makeup to really outshine the cloudy weather.

Last:

For me, CoverGirl BlastFlipStick actually provided a really long last. As the hours dwindled away, I noticed that it faded more toward my mouth and needed to be re-applied. However that was literally hours and hours after first applying it, so the last is not too shabby at all.

Overall:

The only flaw I could find with the Minx color is that it is awful looking if you do not use the 2 colors together and blend them really well. The other flaw of course has nothing to do with the color, but the fact that it is a little dry feeling. I wish that the lipstick added more moisture to the lips.

Other than that though, Minx is an excellent lip color, and looks gorgeous on the right skin tone. For pale skin tones this color would be far too dark, unless of course you still enjoy that dark gloomy goth look.
