Product Review: Salada White Tea with Green Tea Blend

We heard so many times that white tea has more effective health benefits than green tea alone. At the discount store, we found this product that not only had white tea at a discounted price, but also had green tea blended with the white tea for a more effective antioxidant boost.

We made our discovery when we went to our local discount store and among the discount foods there was a package of expensive looking white tea made by Salada called: Salada White Tea with Green Tea Blend. We bought a box for $1.49 for 20 tea bags. The package has no information as to the percent of green tea blended with white tea, but we bought it anyway.

Each tea bag is individually wrapped, which in my opinion helps the tea to preserve more of its aroma.

When we got home from the store, it was a cold January morning, so it was a perfect time to drink something hot.

We decided to give the Salada White Tea with Green Tea Blend a try. My wife prepared the tea using the “By the Cup” package directions. The warm tea evoked beautiful memories of a warm climate in contrast to this cold January outdoor temperature.

For people who never tried this white tea blend, the taste of this tea is milder than green tea alone and a lot milder than regular black tea.

The package tempts the customers to buy this tea so that you can “savor the tea treasured by emperors”. The package explains that white tea is the least known of the other teas. Each bud is picked before it even opens up into leaves. We are told that this tea was specially made for Chinese royalty and today there are investigations going on about its antioxidant properties.

To find out more information about green tea, you might want to check out the Salada Website: www.greentea.com

This website has a surprising amount of information about tea.

The tea package also has the telephone number: 1-800-645-1190. We called it and we found a lot of pre-recorded information about the benefits of green tea and if you prefer decaffeinated tea, there is also an informative short explanation how green tea is decaffeinated.

According to the pre-recorded telephone message, the following is the amounts of caffeine, which is disclosed on the Salada’s telephone recording:

White tea has 50mg of caffeine per cup
Decaffeinated white tea has 2.5mg-3mg caffeine per cup
Green tea has 25mg-30mg of caffeine per cup
Decaf green tea has 2.5mg-3mg caffeine per cup
Black tea has 35mg-40mg caffeine per cup
By contrast drip coffee has 100mg-120mg of caffeine per cup

Now, at this time I saw on the above list, that white tea has a little more caffeine than green or regular tea, however I feel this drawback is offset by new studies suggesting that white tea contains increased levels of antioxidants, as the new studies suggest.

We were hoping that you have a chance to try this “Salada White Tea with Green Tea Blend”, because the taste is very mild and smooth, however we just found out from the company that they decided to discontinue the blended variety.

Since we had a chance to try a blended variety, we will try to blend our own tea using the green and white variety to recreate the smooth taste we just experienced.

In conclusion, I also wish to give credit to my wife for her helpful suggestions and help.
