Product Review: Frederic Fekkai’s Protein RX Reparative Shampoo and Conditioner

The Frederic Fekkai hair care line was developed by Fekkai, a celebrity hair stylist who has been working in the U.S. since the 80s. . He has his own salons (the first opened in 1989) in addition to hair care products (the line launched in 1995). This line focuses on high quality products for each type of hair. I have used the Protein Rx Reparative shampoo, conditioner and treatment mask. Overall, these products did a great job improving the condition of my hair.

Now, let’s get price out of the way. Fekkai is a high-end salon brand. That means expensive. One bottle is around $20. I was given trial sizes; otherwise I might not have ever tried these products. Spending near $40 on shampoo and conditioner is painful for some of us.

The Protein Rx Reparative products focus on strengthening and moisturizing dry, damaged hair. These products definitely made my hair feel much healthier. My hair normally feels a bit dry. After using these products my hair felt much softer and healthier, but my hair was not weighed down. My hair also appeared healthier.

These products by Fekkai feel good as well. They are thick and luxurious, but not goopy and sticky the way some moisturizing products can feel. Unlike some treatment masks that feel as if they will never rinse off, the reparative treatment mask rinsed well. Once a week or so I use a dandruff shampoo that unfortunately makes my hair feel like straw. I have tried several conditioners to use with this product, and all either moisturize not enough or weigh my hair down too much. This treatment mask did a great job.

Fekkai’s Protein Rx Reparative products smell great. They have a light, slightly sweet scent that seems to have a bit of coconut. The scent makes your hair smell good but the scent is not overpowering.

A little goes a long way with these products, so a full size bottle may last a bit longer than another brand. Even factoring this in, you’ll spend at least $40 for shampoo and conditioner. The bottles aren’t huge either.

Overall, The Fekkai Protein Rx Reparative shampoo, conditioner, and treatment mask were good products. They improved the look and feel of my hair and provided intense moisture without weighing my hair down. Despite how fabulous it made my hair feel, the brand is very expensive. The cost does not seem justified.
