Product Review: Feline Pine Cat Litter

I have a multi-cat household, as many do. It seems to me that most people either have one cat, or have 4,5, or 6 cats. I don’t know why, but I think cats are addictive! Anyway, with this many cats, it is so important to find a good cat litter that works both for you and your cats. Litter can have such a huge impact on your household. The right litter means there are no “outside of the litter box” issues, and it also absorbs cat odors so that they do not permeate your home. I think having the right cat litter is key in having a healthy, clean smelling cat and people home. After trying many different brands of litter, I have found Feline Pine to be the best, for many reasons.

In the past, I have always used clumping cat litter. It is so easy to scoop up the clumped litter. Easy to see, and get rid of. The odor would sometimes build up, but I just attributed that to having a multi-cat household, even though I was scooping litter 2 or 3 times a day. The worst part about clumping litter to me, was the dust. Clay dust got everywhere and looked awful. Also, I hated to think that my cats and I were inhaling that stuff, so I began a search for dust free litter. After asking some friends, Feline Pine seemed to be the most recommended. I decided to give it a try and I have been so pleased with this product!

I bought the smallest bag at Wal-Mart, in pellet form. This was less than $4. This was the first positive thing I noticed, as clumping clay litter prices have gotten completely out of hand. I took it home, and poured it in the litter pan. As the day passed, the cats were using the pan, and I noticed the complete lack of odor. As a matter of fact, all you really smell is a slight pine scent, since that is what it is made from. The litter comes in these little pellets, about a half inch to an inch long. When moisture hits them, they expand, and look kind of puffed up. This is the way I can tell what has been used, and I just scoop up that portion. It does not have the same clumping properties as clay littler, but after you get used to it, it is easy to tell what you need to scoop. And once again, the cat odor is virtually non-existent.

The other plus is that my cats reacted positively towards this litter right away. If you are a cat owner, you know this means a lot. If a cat is not satisfied with his litter, or something is wrong in the litter box, he will usually resort to doing his business outside the box, or in a completely different location of his choosing. This is something you want to avoid, so having the cats like the litter from the start, was a plus.

Feline Pine is also easily accessible. Lots of times, when you find a good pet product, you will also find that you can only order it online, or that you have to go to a special pet store or your veterinarian to obtain the product. Not so with Feline Pine. It is available at many stores, such as Wal-Mart, Target, Harris Teeter, IGA, Safeway, A&P;, and many other stores. I like the fact that I can easily pick some up when I am out running my other errands and I don’t have to make a special trip to Petco to get it.

I think my most favorite thing about Feline Pine is that it is all natural and chemical free. It is made from Southern Yellow Pine. This means that it is safe for me and my cats. I think this is a lot better than inhaling clay dust. The natural properties of the pine make it able to absorb the ammonia and cat odors, and neutralize them without chemicals. The pellet form is virtually dust free, which means now I don’t have see dust all over everything and know that it is getting in our lungs. The material is also biodegradable and can be put into a compost pile, which means less kitty waste in landfills. All in all, there is really nothing that I don’t like about Feline Pine. I am so happy for myself and for my cats, that such a product is on the market today. I would recommend this product to any cat owner, especially those with multi-cat households.
