Owner’s Review: Cats Pride Cat Litter

If this product is on sale, I will pick it up and bring it home, as I did recently. A twenty- pound container cost $5.89, but had a $1 coupon on it. That put it ahead of the others by a mile, and price was an issue.

I have used this product in the past, but usually discontinue it as it doesn’t last as long as the other clumping cat litters.

This is a smooth product, almost like a heavy powder. It does create some dust when poured from a height, so keep the container near the box when pouring it.

It does what it says- liquid waste is turned into clumps, which should be left for an hour or so to harden. Try to scoop them before this, and they’re likely to fall apart, creating bits that accumulate in the box. Those bits do add up, and odor begins to build.

As with all litters, the entire box needs to be cleaned, and all the existing litter needs to be replaced. Depending on how many cats you have, it could be once a month or once a week. This helps keep fresh litter under kitty’s paws and keeps the odor down for the human population in the house.

As lightweight as this product is, it won’t work in a Littermaid automatic cat box. The box’s scoop starts to move within ten seconds after kitty finishes, and the liquid clumps are broken up before they get to the removal container. Fecal matter is scooped fine, unless kitty has loose movements. The liquid waste at the bottom of the pan accumulates, as does the loose bits, creating a mess that requires disassembly of the box and replacing the litter.

When I use this product, I put the Littermaid box aside, and use a regular cat box. Since the price is low, I take this traveling with me. It does last for the trip, and since it’s use is temporary, it works out fine.

Most grocery stores and big box stores sell Cats Pride Cat Litter. It’s great to have a container or two on hand just in case you run out of the fancy stuff or hit a financial snag.
