Organic Baking Flour

The next time you need to whip up a batch of cupcakes for a school related function consider using organic flours to make all of your artisan baked goods.. The term artisan means breads which are made in small quantities and are all done by hand There are several choices available and they are all 100% natural. Here are some of my favorites that I use frequently for my baking needs:

Organic White Flour by is made with unbleached flour and is great to use to make a batch of cupcakes for a birthday party or a fresh batch of blueberry muffins for breakfast. I use Arrowhead Mills brand flour.

Sonoma Baking Mix is made using unbleached flour and sweet cream buttermilk. This is ideal to making the perfect biscuits, crusts and shortcakes. I use this baking mix to make my pancakes. They come out fluffier than the premixed type of pancake mixes.

Organic Whole Wheat Flour is high in protein is perfect to use for baking wheat bread and biscuits. I use this type of flour as a base for my pancake mix as well. My preference of brands for this type of flour is either King Arthur or Arrowhead Mills.

100% Organic White Whole Wheat Flour has all of the same nutrition as whole wheat flour does and the only difference is the taste that this type has. The flavor is a lot less mild and the consistency of this type of flour is not as course and grainy. This type of flour has a much smoother look and feel to it. This type of flour is my personal favorites because it just has a much better taste to it. I use this flour the most often to make my pancakes than anything else.

Organic Pizza Flour contains only 11.5% of gluten. The less the amount of gluten in a pizza dough the crispier the crust will be. I prefer to make my pizza dough crusts using Caputo Tipo “00” Pizza Flour. This pizza flour is made in Naples which we all know is where you will find the best pizzas ever. My pizzas come out perfect every time and they have that crunch that I want my pizza to have.

Organic 7 Grains and Rye Flours all have a grainy coarse texture and feel to them and you can see all of the mixture of grains. Using this type of flour gives your breads and rolls that Baker made fresh look to them. This type of flour gives the top of your breads and rolls lots of crispiness and crunch.

Organic Oat Flour is great to use forbreads, pancakes, cookies and muffins. This type of flour has very little gluten and you have to add a leavening agent to the flour to make your baked goods rise. Barry Farms makes a great tasting all natural Oat Flour.

Regular types of baking flours lose their taste and nutrients during the milling process. The grains which are used to make organic flours are not milled down to where the three layers which make up the “kernel” are destroyed and the nutrients are not taken away. This is why organic flours have a much better taste to them.

Happy Baking Everyone!
