Noise Control: How to Handle Noisy Neighbors

The problem with noisy neighbors is having to deal with them on daily basis and the sad part is that you are on a lease for another four months. Often times many people who happen to live in apartments or condos may find themselves wanting some advice or tips on how to handle people who seem to have noise control impairment issues and don’t know where to turn to, but hopefully with this article you can get the issue resolved.Believe it or not most neighbors have no idea that they may have noise control impairment issues, so it always best to keep track on paper when most of the noise takes place. Be sure to write down how often the noise occurs and how it is affecting you without getting defensive about it. The reason why you want to approach the noisy neighbors without getting defensive would be to stay on good terms with each other, rather than having a black mailing war going on in the future for whatever reason. Also it helps to record the noise level around the apartment or condo, so that way they can listen to it if the need were to arise for any reason. The recorded noise can also be taken to the landlord if the neighbor refuses to be considerate and continues with the noise.

Sit Down and Compose a Letter.

Before any face to face contact occurs with the noisy neighbors it might be wise to write a letter , since they might not be aware of the noise they are causing. Plus it helps them become aware of the issue and at times most neighbors are very cooperative when it comes to meeting minor needs of the people living in the apartment complex. Always keep the letter polite and never make any statements that might cause the neighbor to get defensive.

Communicate Face to Face.

Once you have left the letter at the noisy neighbor’s apartment door chances are they are now aware of the issue or at least that other people are aware of it. Of course there’s always a chance that your neighbor will continue to keep the noise level above normal and then its time to communicate with them on a face to face level. If you don’t know your neighbor that well then perhaps it would be wise to bring a friend or a relative with you when you speak to them and again always be very polite when addressing the issue.

Contact The Authorities and Landlord.

After you have done all of the above and the noisy neighbors don’t seem to be getting the hint its time to contact the authorities. Once you have contacted the police it would be then to make complaints to the landlord and provide evidence that the noise is an ongoing issue. Eventually, with enough complaints the landlord will get tired of all the complaints and tell the noisy neighbor to move out of the apartment.
