New York City’s Hourly Rate Hotels

As the “city that never sleeps”, it’s not surprising that New York City is a place that has plenty of hourly rate hotels.

Hourly rate hotels are places where people go for various reasons, some as innocent as a place to stay during a layover between flights, and other reasons that are, well, not so innocent. With three major airports nearby, many do actually need a place to stay for a few hours to catch a nap.

But New York City rivals Las Vegas as a place for adult fun that may not be the type that needs a full night’s stay. Bachelor parties in New York City are very popular, for example, and hourly rate hotels are a good place to hold one.

Many, including New York Magazine in 2008, consider Liberty Hotel to be the best hourly rate hotel in New York City.

While some hourly rate hotels in New York City barely mention the fact they offer hourly rates, the Liberty Hotel has built its entire business around very short term stays. First of all, the check-in process is very efficient and discreet. They recognize that many checking it, well, don’t want to be recognized. The rooms themselves defy the stereotype of hourly rate hotels as they are very clean and well furnished. Liberty Hotel installed air purification systems in its rooms and they do a good job keeping everything clean and fresh.

Reminiscent of Don Henley singing about a hotel in California, this hourly rate hotel in Queens has been around since 1969, has mirrors on the cieling and has guests that never really leave; it’s been a Queens institution for couples for many years.

As with Liberty Inn, Kew Motor Inn has a very discreet check-in process. Its rooms are ‘themed rooms’, ranging from motifs such as NY Skyline, Oasis, Fantasia to Oriental Delight and beyond. Room service is available and it’s open 24 hours a day for new guests.

Four hour room rental is available for about half of the overnight rate.

Whereas the Liberty Inn and Kew Motor Inn exist for basically one reason (hourly rate rooms), the Airway Inn, near New York City’s LaGuardia Airport, offers something for everyone, including hourly rates.

While it is a little less discreet check-in than Liberty and Kew Motor, it is a clean and professionally run place with 3 or 4 hour stays at reduced rates that are, at a minimum, about 50% lower from a standard overnight. Airway Inn offers a free shuttle, 24 hours a day, to and from nearby LaGuardia Airport.

The management here prides itself on standing out from the rest as they are not a single property that is simply part of a larger chain, but rather a stand alone hotel, offering hourly rates, that is independent from the larger chains with its own character and high level of personalized service.
