New Hampshire Bar Exam: A Basic Guide

Preparing to take the New Hampshire Bar Exam will need to include covering state and federal laws and procedures, as well as meeting specific pre-test requirements. If you already have a plan of attack in place for preparing for the New Hampshire exam then you are lucky. However, if you are like a lot of recent law school graduates, you probably don’t know exactly what to expect during the next phase of your legal career. This article will help you through the New Hampshire Bar Exam process.

QUALIFICATIONS

To qualify to sit for the New Hampshire Bar Exam you will need to have graduated from an ABA approved law school. You will also need to be of good moral character. This is determined by conducting a background check that may include an examination of both your financial and criminal history. Finally you will need to take the Multistate Professional Responsibilities Exam, and you will need to pass it with a score of at least 79.

REGISTERING FOR THE EXAM

To register to sit for the New Hampshire Bar Exam you will need to download, print out, complete, and submit an application package. These can be found on the New Hampshire Office of the Clerk of Supreme Court’s website.

THE EXAM’S FORMAT

The New Hampshire Bar Exam is a two day event that is held in Concord during the last week of February and during the last week of July. On the first day of the exam you will take the Multistate Bar Exam. This exam is made up of 200 multiple choice questions that deal with general legal issues and topics. On the second day of the New Hampshire Bar Exam you will be given six Multistate Essay Exam questions and two Multistate Performance Tests. To pass this exam you will need to earn a score of at least 280 out of 400.
