Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner vs. Clinique Clarifying Lotion: which is the more effective toner?

Choosing a Toner for Skin Care

Toners are an important step in any skin care regimen, and for maintaining a healthy complexion. Selecting a toner can also be a chore. Some toners are too drying, or too harsh. Others, are more like water and don’t have much of an affect on the skin at all.

Finding a toner that is right for your skin begins with knowing what type of toners are available, and which type of toner you need for your skin type and texture.

One way to find a toner that is right for you is to try a skin clarifying product made by the brand which produces other skin care products you use. For me, two of those brands are Neutrogena and Clinique. I have used both and have a distinct preference of one over the other.

Ingredients

The most information to know about the ingredients in Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner is what it does not contain. The name of the product says it all. Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner does not contain alcohol, which is a common and drying product in many beauty care items, including facial toners.

The clarifying ingredients that Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner does contain all have one thing in common: they are mild and gentle, and can be used on sensitive or combination skin.

The Clinique Clarifying Lotion is an alcohol-based toner. Some find that an alcohol-based toner gives them the skin cleaning strength they need in a toner. I found the Clinique Clarifying Lotion to be drying, and because of the alcohol, it stung when applied.

For me, Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner won out in the ingredients department, over the alcohol-based Clinique Clarifying Lotion.

The Product Options

Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner is a one-size fits all kind of face clarifying lotion. Surprisingly, Neutrogena only offers one type of its Alcohol-Free Toner. While they do make other face toners, they have not expanded the Alcohol-Free beauty care line.

Clinique Clarifying Lotion, on the other hand, offers four different levels of face clarifying lotion. Each skin product is for a different skin type. Clinique makes it easier to personalize a skin care regimen by helping you select the right face toning lotion.

Clinique definitely gives the beauty-conscious consumer more product options for a skin care regimen.

The Price Comparison

An 8.5 fluid ounce bottle of Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner retails for $6.99. Clinique Clarifying Lotion comes in two sizes: 6.7 fluid ounces for $11, and 13.5 fluid ounce bottle costs $19.

Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner is definitely a better buy. Not only is it a better buy, it is also part of a less expensive skin care regimen than the Clinique system.

Availability

Neutrogena face product is more readily available in retail stores including drug stores and discount stores like Wal-Mart. The Clinique Clarifying Lotion can be purchased in a department store or specialty store where there is a Clinique counter.

Customer Service

For anyone looking to change their skin care regimen, or try a new product, the Clinique counter provides the customer service you need. They can help determine your skin type and which products are best for you. The problem is that you will be made to feel like you need to buy the entire product line in order to reap the benefits of one product, like the Clinique Clarifying Lotion.

Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner: The Better Beauty Product

Effectivenes: The Clinique Clarifying Lotion is harsh and drying. The Neutrogena product cleanses, tones, and minimizes pores, which can help keep skin blemish-free.

Overall, I prefer the Neutrogena Alcohol-Free Toner to the Clinique Clarifying Lotion because it is more readily available, and most importantly, it tones my skin without burning my skin or a hole in my purse.
