Montana: The Biggest Skiing in America

Billed as the “Biggest Skiing In America,” the Big Sky Ski Resort opened in December 1973 one hour south of Bozeman, in the southwestern Montana city of Big Sky, featuring a main base area found at an elevation of 7,510 feet, on Lone Mountain’s eastern face, the best terrain in the Rocky Mountains.

Entertainment Options:

Montana’s 67th tallest mountain offers entertainment options the whole family can enjoy, including ziplines for the bravest daredevils, golfing, hiking, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, mountain biking, plenty of tennis playing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, flyfishing on the Gallatin River, and, if that is not enough, Yellowstone National Park is a mere 16 miles away from the resort.

Big Sky Resort:

Big Sky Resort is well-known for its Winter activities, mountain terrain park, Lone Peak Tram that starts at the top of Lone Peak Triple Chairlift, and unloads at Lone Mountain’s 11,166 foot summit, climbing 1,450 vertical feet, and for access to the most difficult terrain located at Moonlight Basin.

Tickets:

Adult Single Day Lift Tickets, for ages 18 and up, will cost about $79 full day, $69 half day, $54 Early Season (beginning December 11, 2009), $158 for two days, $70 a day for ten or more days, and $94 for the Biggest Skiing In America Combination Package that allows access to both Big Sky Resort and Moonlight Basin.

Junior Single Day Life Tickets, for ages 11 to 17, and college students with school IDs, will cost about $50 full day, $49 Early Season, and $74 for the Biggest Skiing In America Package.

Seniors Single Day Lift Tickets, for ages 70 and up, will cost about $69 full day, $51 Early Season, and $84 for the Biggest Skiing In America Package.

Children, ages 10 and under, ski free with paying adult tickets, limited to two children per paying adult.

Biggest Skiing In America Multiple Day Tickets range from about $188 for two days to about $618 for ten or more days:

Snowcrest Lodge:

Snowcrest Lodge offers a complete line of necessary skiing equipment packages for all age groups, with Qualified Technicians available, to ensure properly fitting equipment is selected.

Snowsports School:

With registration on the afternoon before, or the morning of the day of instruction, Snowsports School provides ski lessons for all skill levels, from first time inexperienced snow skiers, known as Turtles, through the most advanced all terrain skiers they affectionately refer to as Rabbits. The School also offers snowboarding lessons for Grasshoppers, people who have never snowboarded before, through Mountain Goats, the most advanced snowboarders who are comfortable even on easy black terrain.

Kids Club:

Big Sky Resort offers a Kids Club for ages four and up, including activities such as Animal Walks, crafts, games, sing-a-longs, art projects, take home slime making, science labs, making tie-dyed bandannas, and a playground area. There are also a Daycare Center, a Playhouse, and Mini Camp ski lessons for children, with Free admission, for guests of Big Sky Central Reservations.

Lodging:

A vast array of hotels, condominiums, homes, lofts, and mountain view cabins, rated from two to five Big Sky Stars, are available around the Resort, and feature a variety of amenities for all skiers tastes. Accommodations at places such as Huntley Lodge, Summit At Big Sky, Beaverhead, Snowcrest, Moonlight Mountain Homes, Rainbow Ranch, Saddleridge, and several others, range in prices from about $116 a night and up.
