Missouri Trout Parks and Fish Hatcheries

If you’re interested in Missouri trout fishing you won’t be disappointed as Missouri has some of the best trout fishing that you’ll ever find. Managed by the Conservation Department, the four trout parks are all located at large springs with hatching or rearing facilities.

Bennett Spring Fish Hatchery – Lebanon, Missouri

The state of Missouri purchased over 500 acres which included a spring and a fish hatchery in the 1920’s. Today Bennett Spring boasts some of the best trout fishing in the state along with a scenic state park.

The hatchery stocks approximately 350,000 to 420,000 rainbow trout into the Bennett Spring branch annually.

Hatchery Hours: 8:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. daily

Montauk Fish Hatchery – Salem, Missouri

The state of Missouri acquired this 1,393 acre state park in 1926. Montauk Hatchery began operation in 1932 with the current production facilities being built in the 1960’s and early 1970’s.

The hatchery produces and stocks between 300,000 to 400,000 trout a year. On average the park is stocked with 200,000 trout each year.

Hatchery Hours: The Hatchery is open to visitors from dawn to dusk seven days week.
Tours: Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 p.m. – Memorial Day through Labor Day. Call the Hatchery office to schedule other times.

Roaring River Hatchery and Trout Park – Cassville, Missouri

This is one of the oldest fish hatcheries in the state of Missouri. It was first constructed in 1910 and then rebuilt in the 1930’s.

The hatchery produces and stocks more than 250,000 rainbow trout each year and most of them end up here in the 1.6 miles of trout stream that lie within the boundaries of Roaring River State Park.

Camping accommodations include 187 sites and 26 rustic cabins. You can also stay in the new Roaring River Inn and Conference Center and enjoy fine dining and nice rooms.

Hatchery Hours: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily – Office is open 24 hours a day year round for general information. The hatchery is open to visitors from dawn until 10 p.m. year round including holidays.
Tours: Every day May through August at 2:00 P.M. Other times by request.

Maramec Spring Fish Hatchery and Trout Park – St. James, Missouri

Maramec Spring Park is privately owned and operated by the James Foundation. The fishery is administered by the Missouri Department of Conservation while the park itself is administered by the James Foundation.

Maramec Spring Hatchery produces about 100,000 trout a year and all are stocked in Maramec Spring Park. Fish which are at least 12 inches in length are stocked at a rate of 2.25 fish per tag sold. An additional 40,000 trout are transported in from Montauk Hatchery each year to be stocked in the park.

Tours: Contact the Maramec Spring Hatchery office to schedule a tour for your school group or organization. Tours must be arranged in advance. Tours usually last around 45 minutes.
