Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding Review

Last year I decided to stop relaxing my hair. But before I cut off my relaxed hair, I began to research new products that I could use to style and treat my natural hair. Eventually I came across www.missjessies.com and found a product called Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding.

After seeing pictures on the site of women who used the curly pudding and after reading good reviews of the product on other sites I decided to buy a jar. A local salon carried the products so I bought an 8oz. jar there for $22. The price was steep at the time, but I’d only been natural for a few months and I had a hard time dealing with my kinky hair. It was much drier and more brittle than it had been with the relaxer so I was just happy to find a product suited for my coarse, kinky, and curly hair type, that I didn’t care how much Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding cost, as long as it worked.

I used the Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding as soon as I got home along with another product, Miss Jessie’s Baby Buttercream. The curly pudding is a lavender colored gel and cream hybrid that smells like the tropics. I really like the scent, but it is really loud, it will cover up any other hair product you’re using for sure, and probably most perfumes. My whole room smelled like it while I was doing my hair, so it can be a bit much for some people so their is an unscented version of the Curly Pudding.

The label for the Curly Pudding claims this Miss Jessie’s product gets rid of frizz, elongates curls, prevents shrinkage, adds shine, and makes curls last longer. So I followed the directions and applied the Curly Pudding to damp sections of my hair and my hair just drank it up. My hair was extremely dry that day so the Curly Pudding really did make each section of hair feel hydrated and less frizzy.

I also noticed that the Curly Pudding helped to define my curls and kinks, although it didn’t do much to elongate them. My hair shrinks big time, and it did the same thing even with the Curly Pudding.

After I applied the Miss Jessie’s stuff on each section of my hair I used a hooded dryer to dry my hair. My hair looked shiny and my curls were defined but I noticed that my hair felt crunchy and hard. I like my hair to feel soft and natural, and with the Curly Pudding my hair felt unnatural and like it had too much product buildup.

Since that time my hair has become way more moisturized and manageable. I’ve used the Curly Pudding a few more times but I’m not that into it now. I feel like I have to use a lot of it in order to see good results but my hair never feels healthier after I’ve used it.

I do think it’s a good product for reducing frizz, adding shine, and for adding definition to curls and kinks. But it’s not a miracle product that will stretch out your curls or give you a totally different curl pattern. So if you have very tightly curled hair it will only bring out the best in your natural texture, not give you a totally different one. And if your hair is dry and more cotton-like, you won’t wind up with silky hair.

Right now I don’t use this Miss Jessie’s product because I’ve found other products that make my hair feel healthy and moisturized while eliminating frizz. But as my hair gets longer I might use the Curly Pudding for twists and puffs, but I doubt I’ll buy a new jar again.

I give it 3 out 5 stars, I’d recommend it for those who’re transitioning from a relaxer and for those looking to eliminate frizz and define curls and kinks. But I wouldn’t recommend it for those who want to stretch out your curls because this alone won’t do it. I say skip it if you have really dry and coarse hair like me because you’ll have to use too much in order to see results, and your hair will only look heavy and feel unhealthy with too much of this.
