Make Your Own Earring Fingernail Stamps

Many women would never think of leaving the house without being perfectly groomed from her hair to her nails. Speaking of nails did you know that you can have intricate designs on your nails, just like they apply in salons, for mere pennies? How, you say? By creating the unique designs and applying them yourself. You’re not an artist? Don’t need to be! If you have an odd earring, or something similar, you’re on your way to eye-catching nails that cost next to nothing.

Prepare your nails for the new designs by cleaning, filing or trimming, and polishing. Apply two coats of nail polish, plus one coat of clear-coat, before stamping your fingernails with intricate designs. Make sure the nail polish and clear-coat are very dry – not at all sticky – before applying the images.

Have you heard of rubber stamping? Probably. The same technique will work for your fingernails. First of all, rubber stamps don’t necessarily have to be made from rubber, and secondly, the stamping doesn’t have to be done on scrapbooks and papers. There are many things which can be used as a rubber stamp and most of them are not traditional art supplies.

For instance, an earring that has lost its mate can now be a fingernail stamp. Paint the earring with fingernail polish and quickly stamp it onto the nail. If you want, you can pour a little nail polish onto a disposable saucer, then dip the earring in the liquid before stamping. Hold the earring by the post on the back and just stamp the image onto your nail. To do more than one nail just dip the earring in the polish before each stamping.

Earrings like tiny stars, moons, puppies, ladybugs, and similar shapes can easily be applied to the nails. Use several different earrings to create an entire scene or just stamp each nail with a different image. There are no limits to the various designs you can create or the items you can use to create them.

Some things, besides earrings, you can use for fingernail stamping include a pencil eraser, a tiny rubber band, a tine on a disposable fork, a nail or screw, b-b’s, perfume sample lids, a piece of thread, and a host of other tiny objects. To use the items as stamps hold them with tweezers, place a dot of glue on a toothpick and attach the object to it, or just hold certain items with your fingers.

Each item you use will only add to the total look of the completed nails. Threads and twines, dipped in polish, can then be used to create horizons, stripes or mere lines. Circular objects can be used to make suns, moons, bubbles, balloons and more.

It’s a good idea to coat the nails with an extra layer of clear-coat after all the designs have dried. This will help protect the design from scratches and mars – at least for awhile. Nail polish eventually chips away, and so will your design, so clean the nails and start again when that happens.

Tiny post earrings make the best fingernail stamps. They have the post for you to use as a handle for your stamp, they’re inexpensive, and you can use them again and again. You’ll find little post earrings in shapes of hearts, pets, celestial themes, and much more, at yard sales and flea markets. You can purchase the cheapest ones since you don’t have to worry about gold or silver content.

The little earrings can also be used to stamp things around your house. Try making a new pattern for your lampshade, drawer knobs or even your telephone! The stamping is a lot of fun and can change the look of anything from your nails to your decor for pennies. Although you can use nail polish to stamp other things you can also use paints if you’re stamping decor pieces with the tiny earrings. Use polish when stamping nails, though, so they’ll dry quickly.
