Make Money Playing Video Games

You don’t have to be in the video game business to make money off of video games. You will not be able to make enough money to live off of using this method, but you will probably be able to pay for your games and could even supplement your income a little bit while having fun.

What you will need:

First and foremost, you need to love playing video games. If you don’t like playing video games, then you shouldn’t even try to attempt to make any kind of money at it. You could wind up making only a few dollars for each game-and each game takes hours of work to complete. If you love video games-especially if you are already playing them-this will not be work. You also need to be able to write reviews. If you don’t already know how to write a good video game review, don’t worry. All you have to do is take a look at one of the in depth reviews off of any review site to see how it is done. Good ones to check out are on Epinions.com and Dooyoo.co.uk You will also need internet access, as your articles will be on the internet, and the internet is usually the cheapest place to get games.

Now here is how you make money off of your love of playing video games.

Step 1: Get games and play them:

If you are already a gamer (and I assume you are one, as you are interested in making money off of your pastime), this should be no problem. To get games cheaply enough to make money off of them, try borrowing games, trading your old games for new ones, and buying older ones. Take note of anything that frustrates you or is really good about the game, as well as information on characters, settings, storylines, weapons, abilities, upgrades, etc. If you want, you can play the game through a second time instead of having to stop through the game to write something down. You should also take these notes on games you have already played, as you have already invested the money into them.

Step 2: Write a review and a guide, maybe even a walkthrough:

Take the information that you have noted and use it to write a review. Distribute your review to several review sites that pay for them, even if it is only page view payments that you receive. Each site will generate small amounts of income, possibly for years. These small amounts add up quickly.

To write a guide, you will need the information about the story, characters, levels, weapons, upgrades, abilities, etc. The guide should be an incredibly detailed version of the information in the booklets that come with the games. Use one of those to get the basic idea on how to write a guide. This could also be in the form of an F.A.Q. Put the guide on sites that will pay for them, even if they only pay in page views, such as Helium.com and Associatedcontent.com.

Walkthroughs are highly detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to play the game. They usually include all of the information in a guide, as well as pictures showing what the writer is talking about. These take the longest to do and are the hardest to do. Only the best gamers should attempt them. To find great examples of walkthroughs, you should type in the name of the game and the word ‘walkthrough. You should come up with several great ones to give you an idea of how to proceed. Send them out to sites that will pay for them (the same ones you send guides out to will usually work just fine).

Reviews, guides and walkthroughs can also be put on your own website. Many people run very successful sites dedicated to these.

Step 3: Sell or trade your games:

It depends on which one you can get more from. For example, if you can get 2 games worth $10by trading it, but can only get $5 selling it, it may be best to trade off the game. If you’d rather sell, then sell. It is up to you. A great place to trade games is Goozex.com; great places to sell them are EBay and Half.com.

And Start over at Step 1!

Tips and tricks to make more money:

Use you knowledge to write video game related articles like this one.

Get a whole series of games or several games fro the same series and sell them in one lot on EBay. I once bought Spyro the Dragon, Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage/Gateway to Glimmer, and Spyro 3: year of the Dragon for $2 each plus shipping. I played all of them, then sold all three together for $30 plus shipping (I’m currently doing the same thing with the Tomb Raider series).
