Lightening Your Hair with Natural Colourant – Lemon

Natural and organic seems to be the two trendiest words of the season; everything we look, we seem to incorporate that if it is natural, it is better although it may not always be true. When looking for skin care or make-up, we frequently read the labels to make sure that the product is organic. If you enjoy using natural products, and is looking for something to naturally lighten you hair, we have found a promising solution. Chemicals don’t have to be the only way out to lightening your hair – we can use one of Mother Nature’s natural products – Lemon!

Lemon Juice can be used to naturally lighten hair although it is best used on blonde to light brown hair. For darker hair, you can always try, but results are not guaranteed. It all depends on the pigments found in your hair. Be warned! Using lemon juice on dark colored hair may not have as high of a success rate as you may think.

Using lemon juice also has its disadvantages. For one, it takes a longer period of time – maybe from a couple of months to a whole full year. For people who want instant results, this may not be the product for you. Also, just because it’s natural, it doesn’t mean that it can’t harm your hair. Lemon juice is very acidic, and that’s how it lightens your hair; however, the acidic juices are capable of damaging your hair as well causing it to look and feel dry, and lose some of its luster. Considering the disadvantages of using lemon juice, chemical products aren’t that bad compared to it. In fact, although lemons are natural, I personally would go the chemical way – only because it’s instant, and may not be as harmful to your hair.

However, if you’re keen in using rather natural products, lemons are the way to go. There are several ways that you can use lemon juice to lighten your hair; below is an example of one of them.

You can mix a portion lemon juice with 4 portions of distilled water, and rinse it on your hair after you shampoo and condition. If you want, you can do the final rinse several times – all you have to do is catch the lemon juice rinse off with a basin. Towel-dry your hair, and you’re done!

Just keep in mind, natural may not always mean the best way! Using lemon juice does not give instant effects, and can damage your hair.
