Life’s Masquerade: A Shakespearean Sonnet

My old and deceitful, murderous friend,
How many different masks do you wear?
Your torturous lies must come to an end,
The staggering weight of this cross I bear.
Innocent we were at times in our youth,
Our innocent virtues ever so pure,
Age has corrupted the ultimate truth,
A pain we have to forever endure.
Confess before we are righteously done,
Cleanse yourself of evil to be set free,
Purge your unsightly sins to be as one,
Resurrect your spirit and dignity.
Walk with me into the perilous night,
Resolve this tormented eternal plight.
