Kid Friendly Activities in Denver, Colorado

Denver, Colorado is a beautiful city with endless indoor and outdoor activities. With the mountains less than half an hour away there is an abundance of fun activities. Whether you live in Denver or if you are planning to visit Denver here are a few good ideas that are fun for the whole family.

The Children’s Museum

The Children’s Museum of Denver is a very exciting place for children to go, there is so much to do there that you could literally spend the better part of a day exploring. Among the great activities there is one that stands out for most kids and adults alike, the CMD Fire Station. The fire station allows kids to play in a real fire truck with all the accessories from the coats and hats to the boots. There is also a supermarket for the kids to shop and sell products to each other and this is also a real popular activity. There are basketball hoops, painting stations, funny mirrors and a menagerie of other fun games. The Children’s Museum of Denver is opened year round except for the major holidays and is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the week and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the weekends. The admission for ages 2 – 59 is $7.50 and anyone under 1 or over 60 is $5.50. I really recommend visiting the children’s museum if you are visiting town and to those that live in or around Denver and have children you need to stop by. The address is 2121 Children’s Museum Dr. and the phone number is 303-433-7444.

Water World

Water World is exactly what it sounds like, a water park that has been in Denver since around 1983. Water Word is one of the biggest water parks in the nation. If you’ve seen the commercials you might wonder why they advertise as the biggest, here is why. If you put all the slides and tracks together they would be longer than any other in the nation. It boasts 42 water attractions which include the ever famous lazy river and Thunder Bay which is a wave pool that attracts those seeking some thrills. Admission for adults is $29.95 and children under 48″ tall are $24.95. Children under 3 are admitted free and there is a price reduction after 2 p.m. The park is open between Memorial Day and Labor Day from 10 a. m. until 6 p.m. The address is West 88th Ave. & Pecos St and the phone number is 303-427-7873.

Denver Museum of Nature and Science

You may thing I’m crazy for mentioning this as a good kid friendly activity in Denver but trust me the kids will love it because there are many cool things to do there. I grew up about 250 miles away from Denver and we would visit occasionally, the museum was one of my favorites. One of the best attractions for kids and the entire family would be the hall of life which allows you to measure your physical abilities and fitness. The kids love this and it really is pretty interesting for adults to as well. My favorite always was and still is the animal exhibits; there are thousands of displays of animals in their natural habitat. There is also an IMAX theatre there which is always a pleaser for kids of all ages. Along with being a fun activity it is very affordable, adults are $10 and children 3-18 and seniors are $6. The address is 2001 Colorado Blvd. and the phone number is 303-322-7009.

Elitch Gardens

Elitch Gardens is a theme park and has been a staple in Denver for nearly 120 years. It was owned by Six Flags for several years but they sold in 2007. It is still the same fun theme park and obviously there are hundreds of things to do there. It is definitely a whole day affair and can often last into the night. Besides the hundreds of rides, there is also a water park right on sight. Obviously a family destination and trust me the kids will love it. Admission for adults is $44.99 and children under 48″ are $22.49. You can buy discounted tickets online in advance for around $35.00. Elitch Gardens is located at 2000 Elitch Circle and the phone number is 303-595-4386.

These are just a few good ideas for families living in or visiting Denver Colorado. With the mountains so close and the city life so exciting there are endless things to do and you could spend a week in Denver and still not see it all. There are also 5 major league sports teams in Denver and there is a game nearly every day of the year. It is never hard to find something to do in Denver.
