Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive in Wisconsin

Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive:

The one hundred and fifteen mile long Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive stretches from Glenbeulah to Whitewater in southeastern Wisconsin, an area heavily landscaped by the Ice Age, and offers visitors a multitude of attractions to enjoy while traveling the county and local roads found between the northern and southern units of the Kettle Moraine State Forest.

Kettle Moraine State Forest:

The one hundred mile long Kettle Moraine State Forest provides the Greenbush Recreation Area, the Parnell Observation Tower, the Long Lake Recreation Area, the Henry S. Reuss Ice Age Visitor Center, the Mauthe Lake Recreation Area, the Ottawa Lake Recreation Area, the Whitewater Lake Recreation Area, the McMiller Sportsmen Center, and the Loew Lake Recreation Area.

Glacial Drumlin State Trail:

Full of glacial drumlins, or whale-shaped hills, with easy access to the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Museum, the Milwaukee Art Museum, the Mitchell Park Horticultural Conservatory, the Olbrich Botanical Gardens, the Madison Children’s Museum, and the Wisconsin State Capitol Complex.

Lapham Peak:

Named after Allen Lapham who proposed the creation of the National Weather Service, and made the first published national weather forecast from its 45-foot tall observation tower, Lapham Peak contains many moraines, kettles, and ridges formed by glaciers, the highest elevation point in Waukesha County at 1,233 feet tall, and panaramic views of southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois.

Pike Lake:

The 678 acre Pike Lake, east of Hartford, offers a beach, hiking trails, a campground, a portion of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail, and a naturalist program.

Old World Wisconsin:

Containing more than sixty historic structures, rolling wooded hills, settlements, and farms representing many cultures including the Danish Pedersen Farm, the Finnish Rankinen and Ketola Farms, the German Schottler, Schulz, and Koepsell Farms, the Polish Kruza House, the Norwegian Kvaale and Fossebrekke Farms, the Norwegian Raspberry School, the African-American United Brethren Church, Pleasant Ridge Cemetery Chapel, and Shephard Family and Pleasant Ridge Cemeteries, the Czech Sisel Shoe Shop, the German Groteluschen Blacksmith Shop, the Scandinavian-American Peterson Wagon Shop, and the Yankee Harmony Town Hall, Four Mile Inn, St. Peter’s Church, Benson House, Thomas General Store, and Mary Hafford House, the 600 acre Old World Wisconsin is the largest outdoor open-air museum of rural life in the United States.

Holy Hill National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians:

Surrounded by four hundred wooded acres, and located in Erin, the Holy Hill National Shrine of Mary, Help of Christians, and its accompanying basilica, has a 178-step observation tower that provides scenic views of the Milwaukee skyline.

Sylvanus Wade House:

Originally a stagecoach inn, and built in 1850, the three-story, Greek Revival, Sylvanus Wade House has been restored to its Civil War appearance, and along with the Charles House, and the Robinson-Herrling Sawmill, all listed on the National Register of Historic Places, can be found in Greenbush.
