Philadelphia does not have a large number of bead stores or jewelry supply stores. There are two that are located in historic and popular neighborhoods of the City. Beadworks and BumbleBeads offer hobbyists and jewelry designers a selection of beads, findings and tools that allow the creation of unique jewelry pieces.
BumbleBeads
This quaint bead store is located in Chestnut Hill with beads ranging from five cents to a hundred dollars. Beads are handpicked from wooden bins with prices on posted signs. They also carry jewelry making supplies, jewelry making magazines and tools to complete projects.
BumbleBeads’ classes include learning earring basics, basic wire working, how to fuse a silver bracelet, forged clasps and other jewelry making techniques (classes range from $15 to $50). A series of free informal, educational lectures have been added to the class schedule. The first series is named “The Lover’s Eye” Victorian Jewelry: Romance and Remembrance. Workshops following the lecture allow the attendees to create a piece inspired from the lecture. The workshop is free; however, beads and jewelry making supplies are not included. A discount of 20% is extended to the entire purchases of beads and jewelry making supplies on class day (exclusions do apply).
Check out their website that has the latest news, class offerings, details for parties, pictures, and photos of beadwork from their featured artists. Coupons are available and they have their own currency called Bumble Bucks (ask for details). Call ahead for store hours.

Beadworks
Beadworks is off 5th and South Streets and its byline is that it is “Philadelphia’s Favorite Bead Store”. It is located in the Queen Village section and is in one of Philadelphia’s trendiest neighborhoods. The store is one of the few bead and jewelry supply stores left in Philadelphia. It attracts many tourists and those from New Jersey. They sell beads (from fifty cents to hundreds of dollars), jewelry making supplies, and books.
The cost of classes, range from $20 to $45, are private (two students) or small sized (six students). They offer basic classes; wire work technique classes, a handmade ring class and advanced classes (call for advanced class pricing). Confirm if you need jewelry making supplies or if they are included in the cost of the class.
Beadworks also has children and adult parties that can be tailored to individual tastes. Speak with one of their friendly and helpful staff members, in-person; call 215-413-2323 for assistance; or email at philadelphia@beadworks.com to book a party. Call ahead to confirm store hours.
