Jason Statham to Feel Simon West’s “Heat” in New Orleans-Shot Action Movie

Independent Movies, Jason Statham

Jason Statham is headed back to New Orleans to film the action-thriller movie “Heat,” a remake of the 1986 Burt Reynolds film. The action movie star is a veteran of movies shot in New Orleans, which is now often called Hollywood South. Direction of “Heat” comes courtesy of another name familiar to Hollywood South, Simon West. Simon West first headed to New Orleans during the fall of 2009 to direct Jason Statham in the remake of the cult-classic “The Mechanic.” Simon West made his first return to New Orleans during the spring of 2011 to direct “Stolen,” which starred Nic Cage, a New Orleans resident and Hollywood South film regular.

The movie shoot for “The Mechanic” was not the first time that Jason Statham found himself filming in Hollywood South, though. Prior to that production, the action movie star was a part of the ensemble cast of “The Expendables,” which also featured many New Orleans movie set regulars in its credits. Bruce Willis briefly appeared in “The Expendables,” adding another Hollywood South credit to his resume which now includes “Fire with Fire,” “Red,” “Looper,” “Lay the Favorite,” and the spring 2013 release, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation.” “The Expendables” was directed and co-written by its star, Sylvester Stallone. Stallone later shot the spring 2013 release “Bullet to the Head” in New Orleans, and has two more New Orleans-shot films set for release during the fall of 2013, “The Tomb” and “Grudge Match.”

Jason Statham’s most recent New Orleans movie shoot was the action film “Parker.” The Hollywood South film shot in New Orleans during the summer of 2011 and hit movie theaters on January 25, 2013. “Parker” was directed by yet another Hollywood South veteran, Taylor Hackford. Taylor Hackford directed and produced 1988’s “Everybody’s All-American” and 2004’s “Ray.”
