Ideas for Decorating a Bedroom for a Dog

Many people treat their dog as a member of the family. After all, he is a true family member, and he deserves to enjoy all of the comforts of home. He might even have his own bedroom. Furnishing and decorating a room especially for a dog can be a lot of fun. Dogs do not care about wall decor, but it can become a stylish part of the home and provide everything he wants and needs for a happy and healthy life.

Paint the Room in a Color that Dogs Can Typically See

It is a common misconception that dogs cannot see color. They are colorblind, but not in the same ways that people are. They are said to be able to distinguish light shades blue as well as other hues. When decorating a bedroom for a dog, blue is a great color choice. If his bedroom is small, opt for a very light shade of blue to avoid making it visually smaller. However, keep in mind that darker shades of blue are indistinguishable to dogs. Opt for a lighter hue no matter the size of the bedroom. The dog will not care one way or the other, but the atmosphere will be relaxing.

Provide Him with a Den and a Comfy Bed

I crate trained my dog, and he considered his crate a den. Once he was house trained I kept the crate since he liked sleeping in it. I placed a thick pad inside and kept the door open. He went in and out at will. He had his own bedroom, and his den was part of the decorating scheme. It was designed with blue plastic, and I added several peel and stick decals in floral designs to dress it up a little. The dog did not care about the decals either, but I liked them. Decorating his bedroom was as enjoyable as decorating a room for my daughter.

Give Your Dog a Room with a View

My dog enjoys sitting in front of windows as much as my cat. I had an extra loveseat, and it was ideal for the dog’s bedroom since I could place it against the sill of the window. A woven throw over the back of the loveseat added to the floral decorating scheme. Not only did it protect the fabric, but the beautiful white daisies against a blue background added style to the space. I chose a sculptured metal daisy for decorating the bare wall across from the window.

My dog loved his bedroom, even if he did not care about flowers, wall decor and fancy decals. He knew that his room was his own special space for relaxation and watching the world go by. The space would have otherwise gone unused, and it was where he slept every night and napped most of the day.
