How to Wear the ’40s Glamour Girl Look

The styles in the 1940s were glamorous and sexy. Clothes hugged a women’s curves, and jewelry was bold and ornate. Hairstyles were chic and sexy. Furs, hats and decorated barrettes are some of the accessories that were worn in the 1940s.

Hairstyles in the 1940s were often smooth and wavy. To style your hair in a 1940’s hairstyle, add some mouse to your hair. Roll your hair up with large foam curlers or electric curlers. Wait about an hour, then remove the curlers. Your hair should now have smooth, loose curls. Gently brush your hair. Pull each side of your hair back, then secure with a barrette. Place a large flower to one side. Spray hairspray on your hair to help hold the curls. Flowers and ornate decorations for your hair were very popular in the 1940’s. Hats with veils were also popular. Instead of a flower, you could add a little hat to the back of your head.

Makeup in the 1940’s consisted of bold lipsticks, black lined eyes, and false eyelashes. Choose a bright shade of red lipstick. Choosing a red lipstick can sometimes be tricky. Make sure the shade you pick compliments your skin tone and outfit. Dramatic eyeliner and false eyelashes were used to emphasis the eyes. Nails painted in bold reds were also popular in the 1940’s. Try to pick a shade that compliments your lipstick.

Clothing in the 1940’s accentuated and hugged a women’s curves. A fitted dress with a sweetheart neckline, or a fitted suit would be reminiscence of the 1940’s. If your going out in the evening wrap a faux fur shawl around your shoulders. Shoes with a chunkier heel and an open toe were popular in the 1940’s.
