How to Set Up a Date Auction to Raise

On college campuses across America, student organizations are always on the lookout for fund raising events to get some much needed money for their organization. I have seen a wide variety of student activities on display including everything from bake sales to car washes to mud wrestling. However, today I’m here to talk to you about the Date Auction. The Date Auction has been gaining widespread popularity on college campuses across the nation and if you’ve never seen one or a Date Auction has never happened on your campus, then you better jump on the bandwagon, and fast before someone takes the idea!

The Date Auction is such a great fund raising idea because it involves practically no cost at all to set up or pay for and you get a huge amount of money raised. All you need is to reserve a room in a central location on your college campus. You will also need to heavily advertise the event.

The best bit of advice for the event is to get a mixture of guys and girls to participate in the Date Auction. The way the Date Auction works, is that people in the audience get to bid for a person to win a date with them. Students compete against each other in a real auction for the right to take that person out on a date. This will usually mean dinner and a movie or lunch. The premise of the date can be entirely up to the person who is up for auction and the auction winner. You can also choose to set the premise of the date yourself as the hosting organization.

Basically, the way the date auction starts is that there will be an announced lineup of all of the people participating in the date auction who are up for bids. All bids by audience members should be paid in cash. You should also tell the people in the audience that in order to take someone on a date; they have to pay the money to the student organization first. You can have each person up for auction stroll up in the front of the room, one person at a time. The moderator or host of the event should read some characteristics of the person like what their interests are or what kinds of guys or girls they are interested in.

During the debate you will receive an interesting mix of people in the audience. You will have people who are friends of the people up for auction and you will also have people who would like to go on a date with someone and others who are just there as spectators watching your event unfold.

In some date auctions, raffles are also done.

Date auctions, if done right and properly organization, are a great amount of fun and can raise a lot of money for your student organization. Make sure to promote the event throughout the entire campus through posters, list serve, fliers, facebook, myspace and word of mouth.
