How to Remove Mosquitoes from Your Yard

Mosquitoes can be a nuisance to any yard during the summer months and especially in the fall season. Mosquitoes carry diseases such as HIV, West Nile, Encephalitis and many more that officials are still researching.

Mosquitoes main breeding grounds focus on areas that hold or have water standing. As a homeowner you should walk around your yard and remove any standing water to limit breeding areas for mosquitoes. Check flower pots, children toys and other objects that are around your yard and make sure they don’t hold water.

If you’re tired of going outside and getting bit by mosquitoes you should put on protect ant that has cutter or deet as an ingredient. However, these are only temporary relief methods and most of the time doesn’t keep mosquitoes away.

Citronella candles work at keeping mosquitoes away but not always. With all the species of mosquitoes some just don’t respond to the repellent as they should. However, if you can place the citronella candles within the area that you’re occupying then you can battle the mosquitoes for the space. Place the citronella candles in a square depending on the area that you’re in. It’s best to use citronella candles late in the evening when mosquitoes are out looking to bother you and your family.

Homeowners can also by yard mosquito killer that provides a temporary relief, but must be spread every 7-15 days. You can find these products at any home improvement store or any major department store. All of the products are about the same so shop around and find a deal on a mosquito product to use in your yard.

One item that mosquitoes hate is garlic. Some say eating garlic will keep mosquitoes away, but that’s just a myth. There is no real evidence that garlic will repel mosquitoes. There are some garlic barrier sprays on the market that work, but again you must spray every few weeks. A gallon of garlic barrier spray costs around $90.00 and will last during a mosquito season.

Companies now make high-tech electronic mosquito machines that kill flying mosquitoes, but again it doesn’t kill the eggs that mosquitoes lay on a daily basis. The mosquito machines cost anywhere from $150-$400 dollars based on what type of function you would like to have in your yard.

To fight mosquitoes I recommend making sure there’s no standing water around your properties perimeter. Also, take a visual of your neighbor’s yard as well to look for the source of mosquitos. Inform them if you notice a lot of mosquitoes around a particular area.

Getting bit by a mosquito is very irritating and itchy. The diseases that mosquitoes carry will cause a lot of problems, so please do all you can to protect from mosquitoes. Make sure children have a repellant if their outside and examine all bites and monitor their actions to make sure their not showing any sign of sickness. If you suspect something wrong with your child don’t hesitate to take them to the doctor’s office.

Another mosquito recommendation requires wearing long pants and long sleeve shirts, but remember you will get hot. Try to avoid hanging outside when mosquitos are most active. Spray your yard and burn citronella candles throughout your yard and enjoy your yard with freedom from these pesky insects.
