How to Make Wreaths for Fall

I recently went on a shopping spree for fall décor, and one of the items I wanted was a fall wreath for my front door. I discovered that wreaths are quite expensive, even at Wal-Mart. The cheap plastic varieties that really weren’t very attractive and extremely flimsy were almost $10, and I decided it would be cheaper to make my own fall wreaths. Besides saving money I knew could make fall wreaths that looked far better than the best wreaths I found in the store. The following provides ideas and instructions on how to make beautiful wreaths for fall. This information will help you get started and will also help spark new ideas when you make wreaths to give as gifts or add to your fall décor.

Begin With a Wreath of Grapevines

A wreath made from grapevines is very versatile. All types of wreaths can be made using woven grapevines as a base. Even better, grapevine wreaths are cheap if you have access to naturally growing grapevines. If not, you can still find reasonably priced grapevine wreaths that are ready to make into beautiful fall décor. From huge grapevine wreaths to tiny wreathlets, you can make ordinary grapevine wreaths into decorations for any season or occasion, especially fall.

Cranberry Wreath

Faux cranberries are one of the most colorful and versatile craft supplies, and they make beautiful wreaths for fall. If you want to make a grapevine wreath covered in shiny faux cranberries, generously wire strings of artificial cranberries around the wreath. Finish it by filling in spaces with pine springs or tiny dried flowers in deep shades of brown and gold. Your cranberry wreath will look lovely hanging on a wall or a door, and it will invoke the spirit of the fall season.

Mums and Pine

The colors of mums are amazing, and no other flowers come in such a wide of a variety of unique shades. I like to use high-quality artificial mums when I make wreaths for autumn. Fall mums look spectacular when surrounded by beautiful deep green sprigs of pine. Simply remove the heads of mums in colors of your choice, and pluck off the foliage as well. Hot glue or wire them around a wreath made of grapevines, and fill in the spaces with dried or artificial sprigs of pine. A few pinecones scattered around the wreath also make a very eye-catching display.

Sunflowers and Autumn Leaves

Bright yellow sunflowers are a cheerful autumn icon, and small artificial sunflowers look lovely on a grapevine wreath. If you love sunflowers, attach several sunflowers of various sizes and shades on a wreath woven from grapevines. Along with the heads of artificial sunflowers, attach the foliage to cover most of the wreath. Add colorful artificial oak leaves and other autumn foliage to fill in the empty spaces. Hang the wreath with a wide velvet ribbon, and display it on a wall or door.
