How to Look Your Best in Senior Pictures

Summer is here and it’s time to show off your fabulous smile! If you’re heading into your final year of your high school experience, it’s time to think about your senior pictures before the craziness of classes, sports and activities fill your days!

Summertime is the best time to think of having your senior pictures taken since you’re a little more stress-free and your skin has that sun-kissed look!

A few weeks before your senior photo session, work on making sure that your skin is in tip top condition. Use an astringent like Noxzema to kill bacteria and tighten your facial pores. If you prefer a tan, start working on this early. From the natural sun-kissed look to tanning salons and bronzing creams, there are several ways to give your skin a toasty glow. Just be sure to start this process at least three weeks before your photo session.

Approximately a week before your session you should try a few different hair styles, and if needed, now is the time to get a haircut. A trim the day before your photo session will look too fresh and cookie-cutter. Your hair needs a few days to grow out and shift into place with the new style. Be sure to practice your morning routine with the new style a few times so that on picture day you won’t be worrying about how to do your hair.

You should also plan your outfits in advance. Wether you decide to go with a brand new outfit, or your classic comfy jeans, be sure to try on all of your outfits before photo day. You don’t want to be in the dressing room and find out that your favorite pair of jeans has a stain, or that the collar of your new shirt won’t lay flat.

The night before your senior photo session, be sure to get a good night’s sleep. You don’t want your eyes to be blood-shot, red, puffy or circled with dark bags. It’s also a good idea to lay out your outfits to be sure that everything is clean and ready to go.

On picture day be sure to pack a few essentials. A comb/brush, hair spray (yes, for guys and gals), lip gloss and a basic make-up bag for the girls, a lint roller and a few safety pins.

On picture day, remember that less is more. Don’t over-do the make-up. It will show. Don’t use glitter based make-up. The tiny little pieces of foil will reflect light and look like white spots on your skin. Don’t over do the hair gel or mouse, because you’re hair will look wet and greasy. And if you’re trying to cover a pimple, ask the photographer what will look better, a light coating of concealer, or if you should just forgo any make-up and have re-touching done to your photographs afterwards. Some make-up will conceal small blemishes, but it’s easy to go overboard.

Above all, remember to have fun and relax. Try a variety of expressions and poses; wether you are giggling and acting funny to serene and serious. You may never know what look will capture your true emotion until you let loose.
