How to Go to a Houston Astros Game for Cheap

Have you ever wondered, “How can I afford to go to a Major League Baseball game?” Well the answer is here. The following is a guide to taking a trip to a Houston Astros baseball game at Minute Maid Park in Houston, TX for less than $10.

Getting to and from the game:
Minute Maid Park is located in downtown Houston, TX. The ballpark is situated adjacent to US-59. If your are going to the game coming from outside of downtown, then you will need to find a place to park. Typically, game parking around the stadium is $15 or more. To avoid paying these high parking charges, park on opposite side of the downtown area away from the stadium in a city lot. The easiest lots are usually the parking lots found on Main St. After 5 pm, these lots are typically $2 to park. Once you’ve parked hop on the light rail train heading toward the stadium. The price to ride for a round trip ticket is $2. This brings your total to $4 so far, whereas if you had used the typical means you would have paid in excess of $15 already. Once on the rail, you will ride several blocks, then hop off and walk about three blocks to the Minute Maid Park.

Getting into the game:
First, browse around the exterior of the stadium for scalpers. If a less popular opponent is in town, scalpers may be willing to give you an upper deck ticket for only $5. Usually this happens about 25% of the time. On the occasions when quality opponents are in town, buy a $7 ticket to sit in the upper deck. Take notice of the side of the stadium you are buying the ticket on. One side has sun and one doesn’t, so pick your preference. Once you’ve purchased your ticket your new total will be $11. From here on out, you have spent your last dime.

Once in the game:
Once you enter the stadium you have an option that not many people know about. At Minute Maid Park you don’t have to sit in your assigned seat. If you’d prefer to get a closer view of the action and don’t mind standing, sneak up to the outfield railing and stand under the arches in left and center field. The view from under the arches gives you a first person glance at all the action in the outfield and provides a wonderful viewing experience. If you’d rather sit, the view from the upper deck has been carefully crafted to allow viewers to still feel close to the action. If you are thirsty during the game, check the concourse area behind homeplate for a Designated Driver stand. At this stand, you can volunteer to be a designated driver and by doing so you will receive a free $4 drink.

For a great time and only $11, you can attend a Houston Astros game at Minute Maid Park. For your $11, you’ll be able to park, have transportation to the game, have a great view of the action, and even something to drink. So go have a great time and enjoy America’s favorite past time.
