How to Find Work on Craigslist-A Step by Step Guide

One of the best and easiest ways to find freelance work is on Craigslist. The opportunities are becoming boundless. With its popularity growing on a daily basis, Craigslist is becoming one of the best ways to find a myriad of opportunities. Part of the reason for this popularity is that anybody can place an ad and anybody can answer one. There is no sign up and there are no fees. There are two ways you can go about finding work on Craigslist. You can either click on the ads for jobs that are posted, or you can advertise yourself as a freelance writer looking for work for potential employees to find.

Looking for Ads

1. go to www.craigslist.com

2. on the right hand side you will see a list of states, click on the one you are interested in working in

3. scroll through the list of job categories until you get to writing/editing- and /or- writing gigs, then click on it

4. click on any job that seems appealing to you to find out the details

5. when you find one you like and you have read the details and instructions for what they want sent to them click the address on the top. This is how they will get your communication; it’s filtered for them by craigslist. This means they will get it but you don’t know what their actual email address is for safety reasons.

After that you just wait for a response. If you are going to want to follow up, which is probably a good idea, keep their Craigslist address so that you can send them a follow up email after a few days.

You can also choose to post your own ad advertising your writing services. This can generate a lot of business for you and you get to pick and choose the ones you wish to take. The process of getting an ad on Craigslist is very simple.

Placing an Ad

1. once you are on the Craigslist website, click on the my account link in the upper-left hand corner. Creating an account will help you organize and keep track of your job searches and job offers

2. after you have created an account, click on the post an ad in the upper-left hand side of the home page

3. place an ad that describes the type of work you are looking for and the type of writing experience that you have

Then just wait for the offers to come rolling in. Seriously, it may not be that quick and easy, but it does work. Craigslist is just one of the many options available to you as a freelance writer when you are looking for a job. Another thing to keep in mind is that patience is a virtue. You may not find anything the first few days, or you may fail to get a response right away but eventually you will have success.

Because Craigslist is open to anybody to post anything, you will be amazed at the amount of opportunities that will come your way. I once saw a posting that was offering $400 to make up a 200 question multiple choice test. I jumped on it, but due to the fact that it was a great paying gig, it was no longer available. Be aware that this will happen often as well, so if you see something you like, grab it fast. Good luck and happy hunting.
