Hot Weather Hats for Men

With summer approaching, it’s time to start breaking out your warm weather hats again. As you open your box of summer gear though, you notice your selection just doesn’t have the luster is once did. Frayed edges and faded materials are one thing, but when your hats and headgear start to disintegrate, it might be time to shell out a little cash for some new items. If this is the case, or you just want to add to your collection of hot weather hats, here are a few ideas that might appeal to you.

Bucket (fishing) hat – This might be one of the perfect hats for hot weather. This fishing hat is one of those relaxed styles than can fit in a multitude of places, events, and situations. There are a variety of looks for the bucket fishing hat, from floppy brimmed to the more adventurous and a bit less droopy fedora style.

Safari hat – No, by Safari hat, I’m not referring to a pith helmet here. That would be too heavy, to hot and too awkward for casual summer wear, though it might be pretty cool. I’m talking more along the lines of the Panama Jack or Indiana Jones types — something with a little flash. For a good summer time fit, look for styles that have vented sides or tops to keep your head cool and comfortable.

Straw hats – Pictures of little old ladies tending their gardens might come to mind when you hear the words “straw hat,” but there are plenty of straw hat options for men that are not only stylish , but keep you covered on sunny days. Light, vented, and rimmed, these make great options for hot weather hats.

Ball cap – Ah yes, the old standby, the always-faithful ball cap. Tattered and torn, weathered and wilted, and faded just right, it’s still good for blocking the sun and making you look younger than you are. While your aged to perfection cap might be a favorite, just plan to wear some sunscreen on that neck if you plan to be outdoors in the sun for a while. What’s that? You say you’re just going to wear it backwards to protect your neck. Boy, you are a wise one, at least until you realize you’ve burned a nice adjusting strap line into your forehead. But for a sports fan who wants to promote his favorite baseball team, racecar driver, etc. during the summer months, this option is a winner.

Visor – While this hot weather hat option might not provide the same sun protection as a ball cap or other selection on this list, it is great for keeping the sun out of your eyes. However, if you’re going for the great balding or thinning hair deception game, you might want to rethink the visor. It certainly will release plenty of heat from head to keep you cool, but for those with little coverage on the topside, make sure you won’t be under the sun for long, or you’d better lotion up that head. Otherwise, you could be in for a mean sunburn. The best thing is, you can pick these babies up pretty darn cheap.
