The holidays are the perfect time to incorporate a homemade holiday scent into your daily fashion. Making your own homemade perfume is easy, and is sure to not irritate any sensitive guests’ noses with the natural additives. Here are some awesome perfume scents you can try for the holidays to smell great and be festive!
Cinnamon and vanilla is a wonderful, warm scent for the holiday season, like Christmas and Thanksgiving, and the winter months in general. An easy-to-wear scent that just makes you feel warm and cozy all over even when it’s freezing outside. To make a Cinnamon and vanilla perfume, all you need is vanilla and cinnamon essential oils (you can buy them in the fragrance or craft departments at most stores, or in salons and spas) and water. Combine 2 cups of water with 20 drops of vanilla essential oil, and 4-6 drops of cinnamon essential oil. You can add more or less cinnamon if you like to suit your tastes. Simply pour the mixture into a spritz bottle and enjoy the scents all winter long!
Another variation of this same very basic perfume (I don’t like making perfumes with alcohol or vodka, like many homemade perfumes are made with) is to replace the cinnamon with sandalwood or amber essential oils, which add a muskier scent to the mix, and is a bit sexier and feminine.
Orange spice perfume is another great holiday perfume, particularly for dinner events and gatherings. To make this perfume, simply add 12-16 drops of orange essential oil to 2 cups of water, and add 4 drops of cinnamon or sandalwood essential oil to the mix for a lovely Fall and Winter scent that is natural and great for sensitive skin.
Apple and cinnamon are wonderful as well in a combined scent for the holidays. Once again, add 12-16 drops of red apple essential oil, and 4-6 drops of cinnamon essential oil to 2 cups of water. You can replace the cinnamon for vanilla if you prefer the fresh apple scent, for a great, sweet perfume that is wonderful for the holidays.
You can use any winter flower you have on-hand as well as a simple perfume. Simply take any favorite winter flower and chop the blossoms to dime-sized pieces. Line the entire inside of a small bowl with cheesecloth and place the flower blossoms on top of the cheesecloth. Pour one cup of water over the blossoms and allow the mixture to soak overnight. The next day, lift the cheesecloth, and the blossoms will come right out of the water, leaving behind a pleasant wintry scent you can enjoy all winter long. To boost the scent., add a drop or 2 of vanilla essential oil, sandalwood, amber, or even pine (be careful with pine- it can be potent) and you have a natural homemade floral perfume with winter flowers you love!
If you feel you have made any homemade perfume too weak or too strong, simply add more essential oils of your choosing, or add a bit more water 1/8 cup at a time until you get your desired scent. Store perfumes in a cool, dry place, and for the best scent, allow to sit for 2 days before beginning use, so the scents have time to mix together successfully. Also, since these are natural, they are typically safe for sensitive noses, and, depending on how strong you make them, only need to be reapplied once or twice a day.
