Homemade Hot Oil Hair Treatment

Every three months or so, depending on the condition of my hair, I use the following natural homemade hot oil treatment that is similar to the popular store brand: Alberto VO5 Hot Oil Treatment. I use it to condition the ends of my hair. This inexpensive recipe that I am sharing with you below can also be used as a deep conditioning treatment for the entire head and scalp when your hair is dry.

Items Needed for My Homemade Hot Oil Hair Treatment:
Three to four tablespoons of olive oil (I recommend virgin olive oil but regular also works fine)
One pair of rubber gloves (optional – I use my bare hands so I can moisturize them, too)
One small microwave safe bowl
Two or more hair clips (especially if your hair is long)
Three drops of lavender oil (optional)
One tablespoon (to measure the oil and to mix the olive oil and lavender oil together)
One shower cap

Instructions for My Homemade Hot Oil Hair Treatment:
1. This treatment is to be used on clean dry hair. (I usually do this treatment in the evening.)
2. Heat the olive oil in a microwave safe bowl for seventy seconds and remove.
3. Add the three drops of lavender oil and stir. (This will make the scent more pleasurable. Lavender oil is also a well known ingredient used in aroma therapy for relaxation.)
4. Lightly touch the oil with the tip of your finger first to see if you would prefer using gloves when working with this degree of warm oil.
5. Next, apply the oil to the areas of hair that you want to deep condition.
6. Once you have applied the oil, massage it into the hair and scalp using a circular motion.
7. Use hair clips to secure hair in place.
8. Put the shower cap on your head and leave the oil treatment on for twenty to thirty minutes. For severely dry hair, I would recommend using the treatment for forty minutes to reap the full conditioning benefits of the olive oil.
9. After the desired time, remove the shower cap and thoroughly rinse your hair clean with warm water.
10. Towel dry and comb through. Allow to air dry, if possible. It will appear slightly shiny but resist washing it until the next day.
11. The next morning, wash, condition, and style your hair as usual.

Other Variations of My Homemade Hot Oil Hair Treatment:
1. Use a towel that has been saturated with hot water from the tap and wrung out to avoid large messy drips. Apply the hot damp towel to your head instead of the shower cap. Follow the rest of the instructions listed above.
2. Instead of lavender oil, you can use vanilla, patchouli, or sandalwood oil when creating the mixture. You can even use this treatment with two drops of your favorite perfume added to it instead of lavender oil. I would advise you to use a scent that you enjoy smelling to make the experience more pleasurable. After all, this should be a ritual of healing, not torture.

Usage of My Homemade Hot Oil Hair Treatment:
This homemade hot oil hair treatment can be used as frequently as needed. Those who use my homemade hot oil hair treatment, usually do it every two to three months, depending on the condition of their hair.
