Heritage Ceiling Fan Product Review

The ceiling fan in my bedroom was ten years old when it finally quit running. I had originally paid about $40 for it. I nearly went into sticker shock when I went looking for a replacement. Today, ceiling fans commonly retail for $150-$300. I had no idea that prices had risen so much! $150 was not in my budget; I had to find something more reasonable.

I tried Lowe’s and Home Depot. The only fans they offered for less than $100 were either all white, which didn’t fit with my Victorian decor, or they were too small. A room the size of my boudoir requires a 52 inch model. I tried Wally World. They had a few ceiling fans in stock and some were reasonably priced, but they looked dated. They lacked the contemporary styling of the ones I’d seen at the home improvement stores. I was hot, tired and ready to give up and go home when I decided to swing by Kmart since I was near there.

That’s where I found the Heritage ceiling fan that now cools my bedroom. Kmart didn’t have many fans. What they did have was up-to-date in its styling and very reasonably priced. On top of all of this, they were running a ceiling fan sale! I was so excited about these beautiful, inexpensive fans that I bought two: one to replace the one that had conked out in the bedroom and another to replace the old, dated fan in my living room. I was planning to update the living room soon, and I knew I’d never find another fan this perfect this cheap. The two fans together cost me less than $130.

Both fans can be mounted close or on the included short downrod. If you have a vaulted ceiling, you can purchase a longer downrod and mount it lower, but they cannot be flush mounted. This is fine in the living room, as the ceiling is high, but I was worried about the bedroom. My husband is six foot five and we didn’t want him getting decapitated by the thing. We needn’t have worried. When the fan is close mounted on an eight foot ceiling, there is just enough clearance for a man Doug’s height to stand safely underneath it.

Doug installed the fan following the included instructions. We have a ceiling fan in most rooms of our home; and he’s installed all of them, so he’s done this before. Still, he said the Heritage was an easy fan to assemble and install. He’s grumbled about some of the others.

I really loved my old ceiling fan and hated to see it go, but now that I have this one, I love it even more. It has five blades. My old fan had four. That one extra blade makes a difference you can feel in the amount of air movement. We rarely turn this fan on above the low setting (it also has medium and high settings–they will blow you out of the room!). The Heritage is silent. My old fan always made a noise when it was running. I thought this was normal. I guess it wasn’t.

The Heritage ceiling fan is superior to my old fan in one other way. It has a remote control. I can turn it on or off, adjust the speed, or activate the dimmer on the light without getting out of bed. This is spoiling me big time. I’m almost looking forward to replacing all my other fans.
